Title: Race in Pointillism
Post by: B E C K on Sep 30, 2010, 04:19:41 AM
Anyone see this Flickr accout?  They mapped out populations of White (red dots), Black (blue dots), Hispanice (orange dots), and Asian (green dots) populations over maps of various cities.

It's kinda interesting.  Especially the ones that have such really distinct color blocks.  Honolulu was the only city I saw with significant majority green.

Here's San Antonio (http://www.flickr.com/photos/walkingsf/4981430593/in/set-72157624812674967/), which I linked because the tag "Alamo Whites" for "Alamo Heights" made me rofl.  The green Asian dots are a little hard to see though.  I found that if I blurred my vision, it looks like an angry elephant head:

What color are transplanted blacks from Nawlins?

They're as blue as the water that drowned their houses.

That pic's looking more like a screaming rhino to me.  A rhino it is.

With scripts on it has little blocks that say what part you are looking at. See that little tightly packed circle? That is Lew Sterret Justice Center. ROFL

And I think that there should be way more Hispanics. Is this based on the census? Where did they get the info?

FYI, info's ten years old.  2000 US Census.

Nobody says it right. For years I thought it was pronounced Loose Garret.

Triceratops.

Its a bit of an isometric view. The Triceratops is pointing its head upwards. The frill is in the top right. I will MS Paint this shit if you do not believe me, and it will suck and probably not prove anything.

Daffy Duck, getting his brains blown out the back of his head. Rorschachs are fun!

With a 68% majority, we're positively swimming amongst blue dots in my area.

My hand jerked slightly--no pun intended--when I was drawing the rhino horn but anyway those things are naturally phallic with or without me drawing them so ftw.

Although those mouths do look bj-esque.  Is that what you really meant to say?

Can I do it using photoshop? Not that I would know how to do it anyways. I bitched and moaned at my dad for months to get me the newest version of photoshop, and when he finally bought it for me , AND after having to buy a whole new memory for the computer and hard drive (cause the mac version i had was ""too old"" for the program) I installed it and opened it for the first time and thought "wtf is this, i dont know how to use it" and closed it.

Yeah, Photoshop is something you have to learn. Paint is something you can just fuck with.

When I first saw the name of this thread, I thought there was an art race happening.

Layers confuse me

You could just keep flattening the image over and over again to keep it all in one layer.

Layers confuse me too. I mean I want to wear a sweater vest, but I can't figure out what to wear under it.

Huh...."bought Photoshop". Interesting concept, there.

As for layers being confusing, they're a lot less so when you keep the Layers viewbox open.
