Title: Internet over, outta time.

From Internet over, outta time: Prince releases tunes like it's 1999 (http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2010/07/internet-over-outta-time-prince-releases-tunes-like-its-1999.ars)

You know that whole Internet thing? It's over. Passé. Tired. According to Prince, a musician who really wants to reach the masses needs to get hip to two new technologies instead: the CD and the daily newspaper.

Talk about partying like it's 1999.

U need 2 buy this newspaper
Prince's new album, 20TEN, will be soon given away to all readers of the UK's Daily Mirror newspaper "because he wants as many people as possible to hear his music." According to the paper, this will be the only way for UK and Irish fans to obtain the album. It won't be sold in stores, it won't be sold online, and Prince won't have any samples on his website (he shut it down).

Skipping to the end.  If you were really interested in the middle, you can click the link...

Whatever the reality of the rest of it, this whinging about the Internet has the ring of truth. In 2007, remember, Prince was going to "reclaim the Internet" through lawsuits against outfits like YouTube and The Pirate Bay. Then he went after online fan sites over artwork and album covers. Then he had his team start leaning on Pirate Bay advertisers and allegedly shadowing some of the admins around Sweden.

Reclaiming the Internet didn't work, so Prince is now determined to make the 'Net uncool. And if he can do that with CDs and newspapers, more powet to him.

I bolded that line because the article hilariously uses a picture of Dave Chapelle as Prince.  I guess they were too scared to use an actual one.

Perhaps the entire story is best summed up in a comment from our own forums. "Internet to Prince: Lol Wut?"

You know what's over, passé, and tired? Prince.

Maybe he should've died ten years ago so we could enjoy his music forever.  Instead, we shall have the obligatory celebrity decline into obscurity and crazyland.

Yeah, but maybe he'll die of an overdose or something and then we'll have to hear Prince music non-stop for a year.

I wonder if pictures of him will pop up everywhere or publications will still cower in fear of his estate of some shit.  Or, hell, maybe Dave Chapelle will get those honors, too.

Oh I hope it goes to Prince. I don't know if I can take a year of "Half Baked" and "I'm Rick James BITCH!"

Prince is old and tired. If we ignore him he'll just go away...again.

Prince is like a cockroach.  He skatters when the lights come on but he never really goes away.  He just hides under your bed and then crawls in your ear while you sleep.

You were about six years too early with that one.

Florence Henderson.

OH.  Oh, wait.  Honestly tho', I thought she had already died.  Schmoo was all "HOW did she die?  she was just on Dancing with the Stars watching Maureen McCormick."  And I told Schmoo, "Flo-flo hung on for that very moment.  'Once I can see Maureen McCormick shill on Dancing with the Stars, I can die.'  And then she did."

I thought she was dead too. Actually two weeks ago I saw one of the last eps of the X files, about the guy who had huge psychic powers and he used to imagine the Brady Bunch living at his place and I was thinking, "Are all these people dead by now? I think so. Maybe not the little one tho"

Nope, the only ones dead from the Brady Bunch main cast are the parents, Alice, and Sam the butcher.  All of the "kids" are still alive. (http://www.wa-wd.com/list.asp?list=Abradybunc)  They're all at or around senior discount age, but still alive.  Kinda sucks for Florence because Fidel Castro had to go die the next day and take away all of her media attention.  Not since Michael Jackson dying hours after Farrah Fawcett have I seen the spotlight stripped away from a celebrity death so quickly.
