Title: D-Day
Post by: Fiero on Jun 03, 2010, 08:07:33 PM
My grandfather was there the day after. He was in the telecommunications group in the army. He ran cable while people shot at him. My grandfather is awesome.

I think someone old in my family was there but I'm not certain if they're dead yet or not.

Also, the guy I call my grandfather on my mom's side that is not really my grandfather, he was a the Battle of the Bulge. Also a fascinating individual. I wish I had known them both better, but it is so hard to talk to old people.

Ha!  I agree entirely.  Apparently my maternal grandfather used to draw.  I would have liked to talk to him about his drawings and I wouldn't have been so shy about showing him my own art.  Too bad I didn't know until after he died.  And then the language barrier with most of my old relatives doesn't help matters.

My Great Uncle fought in France. Don't know how far into the war he made it. Just know he came back with a wicked case of shell shock and was never the same since. My Grandfather on the other hand painted boats in Pearl Harbor, post attack. Both are still alive, but only my Grandpa has it together enough to tell you anything about the war.
