Title: LOST gets lost tonight
Post by: blanktoe on May 23, 2010, 10:11:11 AM
I enjoyed these last 6 years with LOST but I don't think I'll miss it when it's finally gone. The writers didn't have a plan and it really shows. Maybe this last episode will prove me wrong but I doubt it.

Nope, I think it'll prove you right.  The fact that it's 2 1/2 hrs long just shows the utter arrogance of it all.  I never liked these Lost nights, where you're supposed to sit there and forget how valuable your time is.  3 1/2 hrs including the recrap.  What a joke.  That extra half-hour right there has broken this camel's back.  God forbid it be split up in two nights   I may tune in to catch the end, but probably not.  It reruns on Saturday, but they likely cut something out to make it fit 2 hrs (assuming there actually IS more material and not just giant commercials).

I never thought about that.  You don't really think ABC would add 20 mins of commercials to series finale the only good show on their network. The Mouse wouldn't be that evil would he?

I did read somewhere that they're charging a premium for commericals, like several hundred thousand above normal.

I tuned in for the last forty minutes and wow.  That was terrible.  I would've preferred they were in some autistic kid's snowglobe or Jack woke up next to Suzanne Pleshette.  Or hell, reunite Fox with the Party of Five cast.  That really would've been a mindfuck.  They didn't even have the entire cast there in the church.  And everyone was the age they were on the island despite people dying after Jack.  I don't think I'll even waste my time catching up on what I missed.  Six years for this shit?  rly?

I watched the whole 2 1/2 hours and it was mostly Target commercials. Anyway, I'm glad the show is over. I'd like to say now I can move on to better things but True Blood starts up in a few weeks. Followed Transformers Prime, GI Joe Renegade in the fall then, Genndy Tartakovsky's new show coming soon after.

Speaking of cartoons, any of you guys watch Adventure Time?

Toe is technically correct. Fucking awful, but somehow I am glad they ended it that way.

What I am NOT glad about, is smokey going out like a bitch. Seriously, LIKE A BITCH.

The ending didn't feel like an ending, but rather a seperation of the main story from the larger mythology. While I enjoyed how the finale wrapped things up for Jack and some of the others, you could tell it's a setup for a future series. Now that could be interesting given when Ben knows about the island and how Hurley would run things now that he has Ben's loyalty. I don't think the smoke monster 'died', but rather his essence was shattered by the removal of the cork.

What is the wierdest thing had to be how some people didn't get the ending and the reality of the sideways timeline. Some actually believe the island never existed and everyone died on impact, despite people in series saying the opposite.

Pros:
It wraped up the characters nicely. Kary bawwed when Juliet and Sawyer reunited.
The ending (Hurley and Ben taking over, everyone alive leaving, and the opening of hell remaining open for a good time) left things open for an expanded Universe/another series.
Desmond's role did not disapoint.
Jack and Smokey's final battle was indeed epic and ended wonderfully.
Lapidus declaring they needed to just fly the fuck outta there was perfect. "OH! WE NEED TO HELP THEM!" No. He was selfish and that worked.

Cons:
The temple felt useless and unimportant. I can see where JJ Abrams left and the two new guys came in. The temple was supposed to be important yet it wasn't. The 2007 writers strike was supposedly the reason the Temple didn't show up in season 3, yet it only shows up at the end and was otherwise useless. Was the water in the temple from the source? What was Dogen for?
Widmore just being useless, even in Purgatory, felt like a major let down. I loved the Ben/Widmore rivalry and I loved how Ben killed him. Yet, that was it. WHY!?
No answers really to things that should've been answered, unless they know another series will be made so why wait? Who did all the Egyptian crap like the Temple and the statue?! Who installed the wheel? What was the real purpose for the hatches? What was the connection between the swan and the light? What did pushing the button do in relation to the light?
WHY WAS LIBBY IN THE FUCKING SANITARIUM!?

I did like the finale. Sure, Walt and Michael didn't show up (Michael's stuck as a ghost with Hurley and Ben while Walt is doing his own thing) and Eko was gone (actor was a bitch and wanted too much money, and Eko already moved on), but I think it did a great job of wrapping up the Survivor's storyline.

I did not think it was quite epic, but it did end wonderfully, even if smokey went out like a bitch.

Who installed the wheel?

Smokey still could have accomplished this, or driven newcomers to do so. It may be that he finished it, and that it did not allow him to leave, but he figured out that regular people could. I think it is more likely that someone else found his work and finished it.

I do not remember the episode exactly, but my understanding was that something triggered her sooner than the others, and the "limbo world" society deemed her as insane. Maybe she could not come to terms with what she had unlocked in her mind until she encountered Hurley?

1. I disagree. The leadup was nice, the showdown shot was beautiful, as was the fight itself. It had a bit of cliche with the knife, except Locke loved knives. I was resistant to Kate killing him, but I got over it given what else happened.

2. Doesn't give a solid answer. :(

3. They never really said, though. Again, it was a leftover from J J Abrams and when the new guys took over they had no interest in that stuff, like Charlie.

Here's what I want to know, would you guys ever watch another show by Cruise and or Lindeloff?

I'd also like to know why did Paul Dini and Brian K. Vaughn leave the show? I wonder if they were forced out .

Probably not. You can tell which episodes they created to push their vision, much like how parts of X-Men 3 was great but the rest was shit.

I would watch their show.

I will never knowningly watch a show by those ass-clowns again.  Yeah, I was annoyed that people were in weird LOST heaven or whatever, but they raised so many fucking questions and effectively blew them off.  Whoever took over the writing for the last couple of seasons overdid the spirituality aspect big-ass-time.  The earlier episodes had a nice balance of science and faith and it all became RELGION IZ MAJIK!!!111fk

I wanted to know this shit.  Bad, lazy writing.  It ended in drool when it should've ended in cool

I blame ABC for messing up things. Had lost ended in 5 seasons, perhaps they could've told a better tale. Instead, they threw in the purgatory thing at the last minute for the final season. I did like the ending. I just didn't like how the final season was handled compared to the fifth season.

Abrams is also to blame for this. He creates these cool shows then he leaves them midstream and they end up tanking. It happened to Felicity, then Alias and now LOST. I really want to give his new Spy show a chance but I know it'll just let me down in the end.

You have to be a little more specific, though honestly everyone died at the end.

I think she's referring to Sawyer and Kate and no, they didn't hook up. Well as far as we know they didn't. Who knows what happened after they left the island. The writers certainly don't.

I do not think they did. I think Sawyer was already over Kate at that point. Them getting together for more than a roll in the hay would have been nonsensical to both of them. But a bootycall? Sure.

Ha ha, yeah.  When they flashed his name I was all "fuck an Abrams"!  Seriously, I'm not wasting any more time on that guy, Star Trek excluded.

No, I meant "fringe".  As in an "ornamental textile trim applied to an edge of an items, such as drapery, a flag, epaulettes, or decorative tassel." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fringe_(trim))  But, like, made out of my pubes.

That reminded me of the skit in Jackass 2 when everybody shaves their pubes (crabs included) and they make this guy think it was fake beard hair and he pastes it all over his face. He even said that everytime he talked he would swallow a couple of hairs....
