Title: Election 2004
Post by: The D on Nov 02, 2004, 10:01:00 PM
*burps*

Well so far, most of the states that were predicted to vote for Bush has. It's amazing how many fucking idiots actually think this guy is intellegent enough to be the leader of the most powerful country in the world.

Earlier, before I voted, I went out and bought some alkehaul from my work. I'm already halfway through my second bottle. The way this shit's going, I'll be comatose from too much alcohol and won't give a shit while the world goes to hell.

What's worse? The idiots in Michigan so far have voted 60% for Proposal 2, a ban on gay marrage.

If this passes, I will carry a gun around in my jacket, and if anyone says they don't support gay marrage, I will fucking kill them. I'll just gun them down with no remorse and walk away like nothing happened.

I think the only thing that redeems Michigan so far is it looks like Kerry will win here.

*downs his second bottle* Keep the fucking booze coming!

I watched news channels for about an hour or so before I said I couldn't afford to waste a whole night sitting there disgusted.  When I left it about a half an hour ago, Bush had 269 projected electoral votes and was ahead in several states where there was no estimate made for where their electoral votes will go yet.  Given the numbers in Florida, it looks lost to us.  As much as I hope Kerry pulls a miracle out of his ass, I don't think it's likely.  He's having enough problems with Ohio.

I think the gay marriage thing is kinda sad.  How is this part of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness if two people who love each other can't get married?  Sure, I'm a stupid idealist, but why do all these straight people get to limit gay rights?  Just because they're gay doesn't mean they aren't human beings.

I don't put much stock in marriage, and if I had a partner, I don't think I'd care what these stupid laws have to say about it, but it just seems wrong to deny them.  A poll on one of the news channels did say a good number were for civil unions of gay couples, they just don't want them married, apparently.  A guy on MSNBC put it the right way IMO when he said voters are going into those booths and going "EW, GAYS!  I don't think I like that." and voting against them instead of logically considering how gay marriage would in fact impact themselves, which would probably be much more minimal than they think.

So anyway...  Here's hoping for that Bush assassination.

Unless, by some miracle, all the absentee and provisional ballots were cast for Kerry in Ohio, Bush is reelected.  (Also, my state is being a pain in the ass and being one of the closest and last states to be given to either candidate).

As far as the gay issue, it's certainly not a religious thing for me.  It's a basic sociological thing to me.  The "1 male-1 female" basic family unit is an essential   part of our society and I think that it's important for a child to have both a strong mother figure and a strong father figure.

That being said, I have nothing against homosexual civil unions.  If you're in a legally recognized, committed relationship with another person, I see nothing wrong with extending insurance and tax benefits to that person.

Eddie couldn't be happier.  He's a system engineer for Schlumberger, which is about the biggest big energy can get with branches & subsidiaries all over the world.  One can get on an international career path there, i.e., decide on which country you want to move to & work in, and when openings come up in the local subsidiaries or specific country-related departments, you get priority consideration - for example, he's working for a French subsidiary right now and a guy he works with moved to France last week after two years in the Houston office.

We had always planned to move to Canada - this isn't new; I've been in love with Canada since I was a kid - but were thinking more toward retirement age.  But as Eddie pointed out, he'd rather we move earlier and be contributing citizens before presuming to retire there.  Good point.  So I promised that if Bush won, that's what we'd do, never dreaming that Kerry wouldn't win.  What a difference a day makes, hmm?

So, he's working on his proposal right now for a Canadian career path and will submit it as soon as he's done.  I'm kind of sad, but really hopeful and excited at the same time.   :)

THE RACE IS NOT OVER GOD FUCKING DAMMIT!

According to US LAW, The president WINS the election when he gets 270 Electorial votes.

Bush has NOT won Ohio yet. And even if he DID win Ohio, he would still only have 269 votes!

UNLESS Bush gets 270 or more votes, I will NOT consider him the legal President of the US.

FIGHT KERRY! FIGHT FOR EVERY GOD DAMN VOTE!!!

Oh, I haven't given up.  I'm just making worst-case-scenario plans. We've both long intended to get sterilized at the end of this year, beginning of next year, depending on our medical plan changes, and would do so if Kerry had won in a cakewalk.  Same with our eventual relocation to Canada, which is something I damn near did when I was dating a guy from Toronto years ago.

Same songs.  We're just requesting them a little sooner.  :P

VERY astute point from the BRATS board:

Quote
This is one of those times I'm really glad that greed is such an all consuming motivation in our life and times. Why?

Because no matter how hard the shrubyas and their fundie freak sponge-minion puppets try, they will NEVER stop abortion.

It may be harder to access and even illegal at some point in the future, but they have no powet outside their own country and there are plenty of other places that are willing to pick up the slack.

As long as their is money to be made doing it, it will be available. Let's hear it for Canada. We are going to make a LOT of money in the medical area before the next 4 years are up. Hell, if I had the money I'd open a clinic on the border and make it free. But for now, we're just going to have to count on the fact that the money to be made will prevent the fundies from EVER getting their way.

As I've pointed out before, nobody will be driven by Mumsie or Daddah to an abortion clinic faster than a fundie's daughter impregnated by an "undesirable".

All I can hope for is that the bank will give my dad 5-6 million dollars for his project. Then I'll... *gasp* benefit for Bush's policies!

Oh well, if Bush smartens up and uses this point to unify things and not act like the ass he was before, maybe the next four years won't be bad.

Though I am holding out hope that a massive fuckup/fraudcase allowed him to win. :)

That psychic in Nuri's thread that he won't make it all four years.

I'm still holding on to that hope.  There's always a light at the end of the tunnel, guys.

I was pissed when my grandma called and broke the news to me.  I just hope that Bush will spend more time on his own country that barely elected him rather than starting a mini-America overseas.

>.>  I'd actually feel better if either had won be a landslide, but since the race is so close half of the country is going to be pissed.

Post by: Evil Monkey-Tom on Nov 03, 2004, 03:02:15 PM
That's the thing, it's not really a victory. Sure Bush did win, but by what? 3%? that's nothing.

And Bush got more votes than any other president, again, an misstatement of the fact. Kerry also got more votes than any other president, and he didn't win.

And another picturesque little glimpse of our future:

Quote
LISBON (AFP) - More than 1,000 women in Portugal had to be
hospitalised last year due to complications following
backstreet abortions in a country whose laws forbid legal
abortion, health statistics showed.

The figure "clashed with the 123 clandestine abortions officially
identified by the authorities last year," said a report by the public
health authority DGS, published Wednesday in the newspaper Publico.
DGS said the contradiction was due to the fact that public statistics covered only officially proved illegal terminations.

The number of clandestine abortions annually in Portugal is reckoned at between approximately 20,000 and 40,000.

Female population between 15-64 July 2004 - 3,535,018

Female population between 15-64 July 2004 in the US - 98,183,309

Do teh math, guys.

And maybe you don't get banning it won't stop it from happening. It will just cause women to get hurt. And in some cases, abortion is needed. Let's say you're a thirteen year old girl, and Daddy gets drunk and rapes you.

And guess what? Now in florida, you have to legally tell him, since he is the father. :P Isn't conservatism fun!?

Actually, this is a major issue.  The South Dakota abortion ban which was halted in the Senate in March had no exceptions for rape and incest victims.  Democratic SD Senator Tom Daschle was defeated for re-election on Tuesday.  Do you need a crystal ball to predict what's going to happen?  <_<

I got raped when I was 21.  I promise you it's not a pleasant experience.  To force a rape or incest victim to host the result of something so horrible for the better part of a year and be responsible for it for the rest of her life is blaming her for the crime.
