Title: Squash Soup
Post by: Derrick on Nov 02, 2009, 05:10:53 PM
I just made a delicious Winter-Squash soup. I used Butternut Squash, Red Kuri Squash, and Pumpkin with potatoes, milk, brown sugar, chicken stock, and some spices. It came out delicious. Kary, it turns out, just hates Squash altogether. She said it looked like baby food. I wanted to throw the hot pot of goo on her, but then decided against it as I want to eat it.

Mmmm.

I don't get it.  Throw it on her and then eat it off.  Doesn't everyone win this way?

I have never actually tried it.  I agree with Kary that it looks kinda baby-food throw-up-licious.  Merla loves butt-nut squash though.

When made right, it's delicious. I always make it right. Also, loaded with fiber and vitamns.

Protip: Fry some bacon and put it in the soup, especially applewood smoked bacon. It makes it taste a million times better if you like bacon. I don't, but to each their own.

Veggies that taste like bacon disturb me for some reason.  I like rice, potatoes, couscous, or quinoa with a little bacon but in veggies seems kinda odd.  Perhaps adding rice or quinoa to the soup as well would negate this?

Damn, this thread was making me real hungry until someone mentioned sullying the vegetables with bacon. BLECH.

And also to myself and anyone else: Squash are fruit.

I can not accept that they are lumped in with oranges.  The only thing that makes this okay is that there are both apple and pumpkin empanadas, which lends credence to them being more closely related than, say, cabbage and pumpkin.

In fact, the wiki indicates they are somehow similar to berries. BERRIES. I AM SERIOURS.

A pumpkin IS like a bloated monster alien berry now that I think about it.

A "thick-walled' berry.

I do like pumpkin smoothies.
