Foreseeing election results -- is it in the cards?

TRIBUNE-REVIEW

The answer to Tuesday's presidential election could be the in stars, or in the cards.

Soothsayers are willing to call the White House smackdown even if public opinion polls show a close race. Trib p.m. called upon psychics, astrologers and numerologists to forecast who will win: Sen. John Kerry or Republican President George W. Bush. Some of them predicted period of uncertainty after the election, and said that Kerry could be president if he doesn't back down during a recount.

"Numerologically, Kerry is the better man, but because of how Bush comes across, he'll probably get the election. But even if Kerry does win, the Bush empire isn't going to allow it," said Lady Morgan, a psychic advisor on the South Side.

......................................

If Bush stays, she said astrological odds are that he won't stay there long. She cited a phenomenon known as the Tecumseh Curse.

According to the curse, presidents elected on a 20-year cycle starting with 1840 have not made it through two terms. Most have resigned, died or been assassinated before that could happen.

Astrologically speaking, Bush's stars and planets look much like those of former President Richard Nixon when he was campaigning for re-election.

"If Bush is re-elected, he will not finish his term," Ackerman said.

...................................

Tarot specialists Ruth and Charque Newell of Regent Square said they were surprised by their findings that Kerry would be the victor.

"Our emotions are in a different place than what we found in the reading," Ruth said.

They also agreed with other occultists - both candidates will challenge the results.

"Bush will find it hard to lose. He will be fighting his defeat," Ruth said.

"It will probably take four weeks before the election is settled," Charque said. "(Kerry) could almost lose the election by playing the gentleman."

Related to fortune-telling, the Washington Redskins lost on Sunday.   :P

Quote
If history holds, the 28-14 result portends a victory for Kerry on Tuesday because the result of the Redskins' final home game before the presidential election has always accurately predicted the White House winner. If the Redskins win, the incumbent party wins. If they lose, the incumbent party is ousted.

The streak began in 1933, when the Boston Braves were renamed the Redskins. Since then, beginning with Franklin Roosevelt's re-election in 1936, the trend has held, including a 2000 Redskins loss to the Tennessee Titans that predicted George W. Bush's win over Al Gore.

I like the freckles on my nose from the sun and tanning.  But a body covered in freckles is kind of icky.

Freckles kind of go with the territory on redheads, which is part of why I avoid the sun so much.  I don't have them, but I would if I wasn't careful.

Wasn't there a different host in the first season who had objections to their meanness inducing policies?

I don't remember the first season, but you're probably right.  I don't think he was always the host.
