FDA advisers vote to take Vicodin, Percocet off market

Cool!  Two more things for drug smugglers to run across the border!  ::)  And now I guess my doctor can put me on something that's PURE narcotic, like Oxycotin!  I can't take Vicoprofen and I'm sorry FDA, but I have scoliosis - when I fuck up my back, it's FUCKED.  Baby aspirin and chamomile tea don't quite cut it.   Once again, countless lives get screwed up because some peckerheads can't read the directions on a bottle.  Hell, let 'em die and get their stupid asses out of the gene pool!  :goddammit:

Didja read it? No. They both contain acietamenophan (Sp? APAP or Tylenol) and cause liver damage, which is why I NEVER TAKE APAP. Workin in a pharmacy has told me despite warnings of stomach irritation, IB Profen is the best antiinflamitory.

Get Vicoprofen (Hydrocodone and IBP) or Percoprofen (Oxycodone and IBP) instead. The chemical reactions are the same and provide less risk of liver damage.

I can't take Vicoprofen

I understand perfectly about the liver damage. I'm not following my doc's recommendation to take Tylenol on a regular basis for just that reason.  If I do take acetaminophin, it's in a combination with aspirin & caffeine and only 250 mg. worth, and that very rarely.  Nothing OTC would touch one of my migraines - Treximet, baby.

They won't ban the combination, and if they do a pharmacist would be able to compound it, so don't worry.

And so I didn't. Blah to you :tom:

I vote for bringing back opium dens.  A visit would take the edge off of dealing with Eddie's mom as well.  :P

Opinion from someone in pharmacology for many years:

Quote
I was gonna write a rant about how fucking stupid even surgeons with 16 years of combined college education and training can be, but you know what? The bottom line is, people are just not risk-tolerant for even the very slightest risk--moreover, not even for completely hallucinatory, non-existent risks that they saw on teh intartubez. The expectation in these modern times is now that NO risk is acceptable. So while the risk of liver damage due to acetaminophen is very very low, the Powers That Be have decided that since pain does not actually kill you by itself, pain doesn't matter.

That really is their calculation: That howevermuch pain you may be in, pain by itself will not kill you. The fact that chronic pain can make you want to kill yourself doesn't seem to enter into that equation. Economics of someone disabled by pain as opposed to working, having hobbies, being reasonably happy and having a life also does not enter into their accounting. It's the same rationale that is used to deny people opiates: The number of people who develop an abusive habit is relatively low, considering how many people have taken opiates for wisdom teeth, appendix removal, etc. Nevertheless, surprisingly few docs take pain management very seriously, treating it as sort of an afterthought available mainly to wealthier patients with good insurance.

My Wiccan friends are advising salvia, which one can brew into tea. Doesn't kill the pain, but puts one's mind into a state to deal with it.  At night, I can take more Ambien - if I'm asleep, I ain't hurting. And hey, I guess there's always the old-fashioned remedy of a few shots of whiskey. Not like that will bother the ol' liver, huh?  I hurt to some degree all.the.time.  It never stops. I've just gotten used to it, and one can do that - it's not some dramatic martyr statement.

I've considered the MJ option. Time to get RI residency or call some old club pals.  ;D

SALVIA!? No no no no no. That shit makes you hallucinate for a good five minutes, and it can be horrifying. It's not a pain reliever in any way, in fact the hallucinations could make you jerk around and just lead to more pain.

No salvia - my Wiccan friends also said I'd never feel like a real woman unless I had a kid and I haven't grown a penis yet.   Anyway, I think the outcry from docs & pharmacists over the workload making these drugs Schedule II (need a new script every 30 days, right?) is starting to register. Stupid people who don't read labels or choose to abuse meds can only be babysat so much.  And then there's people like Eddie's mom at 74 who has taken 3000 mg. of Tylenol & Motrin a day for the going-on 14 years I've known her plus Tramadol & Xanax - we're terrified that we're still going to be taking care of her when I'm 74!  :tantrum:

Reminds me of when they took Dimetapp (Well not all Dimetapp, but the stuff that worked for me.) off the market, cause one guy ended up having heart trouble cause he took the drug and sued. So they like scrapped it and reformulated it. Sad thing was it was the only thing that worked on my Sinus problems. I went for about 10 years just having suffer through the symptoms cause nothing on the market would do anything for me. Now I've  found Tylenol Cold and Sinus Maximum Strength which works just as good, but they keep that locked up since you can make Meth out of it.

Then it would have to be pronounced "RAY-AL" with a trilled r to sound international.

It's because America's the lawsuit capital of the world. Every little whiny bitch who wants easy money, rather than working hard for it like everyone else, decides to sue for the smallest things. Oh noes, this medicaton make me nausious, I better sue!

More companies produce it.

*engages in stereotypical 'legalize marijuana' rant*
