If you don't live in an area with seasons, move.
Ah, spring is back. No more snow. Green leaves and colorful flowers! Ice cream shops are open. FUCK YEAH!
-
I'm starting to rethink my stance on Spring. Everytime it even thinks or raining, I have to duck and cover.
-
If thunderstorms and tornadoes don't get you where I am, the allergies caused by what they water will.
-
Amen...I'm still hacking a lung here. Course it's worth it to sleep with the window open. I love that.
-
Claritin. S'all.
-
Here's why I'm really hating rain now.
Typical house in our hood on a lot averaging 7500 sq. ft. Lots of green space. These are now considered "tear-downs":

What's getting built in their place:

More non-permeable surface on a built-up grade = less water absorbtion = more flooding for the original homes. We had hoped to stay here for another 20-25 years; maybe add a 1/2 story & a sunroom - not anymore. Place is paid off in 11 years, we'll no longer have 14 animals and we're selling then, if not before. I'll be damned if I'm going to be running around putting bricks under furniture every time it rains. >:( And adding insult to injury, they invariably replace the old homes with a butt-ugly McMansion.
-
I always found the term McMansion misleading.
-
Yeah it's not really a mansion and it's not food that gives me the farts.
-
Where's the apple-pie-guesthouse?!
Haha, hack comedians.
-
I think I can take credit for starting the phrase "McVic" on local preservation boards to describe the faux look-alike Victorians. In Houston, historic architecture laws are never as deep as a developer's pockets and connection to City Hall, so even in the alleged "historic districts", century-old houses that are "too small" at 2000-2500 sq. ft. are torn down for these, also called Disney Hummer Homes:
http://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/945-Heights-Blvd_Houston_TX_77008_1101968459 (http://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/945-Heights-Blvd_Houston_TX_77008_1101968459)
Good definition of McMansion: "The stereotypical 'McMansion' has no architectural pedigree but rather mimics the architectural styles of the past by combining elements found on traditional mansions, such as quoins, steeply sloped roofs, multiple roof lines, and pronounced dormers. Because the builders who construct these homes en mass typically have little or no formal education in architecture, there is tendency to mix multiple styles and foreign elements." I would add "quickly built and out of scale with existing neighborhood homes".
After seeing all the Hurricane Ike claims on newer high-value homes for roof lift, rain coming in through roof vents and around windows, torn-off siding, etc. you couldn't give me one of those 5-week construction wonders. Our little tear-down didn't lose so much as a shingle.

Why? Who needs snow? The ice cream shops stay open year-round. It's such a non-issue, there's even one that's closing because of the summer. I know you guys don't call what we have seasons but a little hotter here and a little colder there is enough for me. I don't need all of nature's drama.

Ice cream? Coldstone and Baskin Robbins are open 363 (they prob close thanksgiving and christmas).
-
I have a friend in Omaha who gets screwed over year-round - heat in the summer as bad as ours, dealing with snow and whiteout conditions in the winter, worrying about floods in the spring thaw, and tornado threats year-round. As much as I hate hurricanes, at least they're seasonal and don't pop up out of nowhere.

And Go-Karts year round. That don't sound so bad. Course I say that now...but I'd be bitching all summer when it was a 115 outside.

Claritin. S'all.
I'm in a catch-22: claritin turns my sinus drainage into sludge in my head, causing massive headache. Sudafed turns it into a gushing geyser which drains into my gut, causing massive diarrhea. Darned if I do, darned if I don't.
-
Zyrtec? Singulair? Jack Daniels?
Eitherway, Monday is the pinnacle of Spring, Memorial Day. Parades and free grilled foodstuffs. Then the local liquor store is having a free beer tasting that night.
-
I'm trying Zyrtec, but not enough info to go on yet. But Singulair's for asthma and opening bronchial tubes, not stopping the incessant flow of snot. And, despite my afore amusing appellative, Jack Daniels is out.
-
I don't dare go out this weekend. Every drunk overpaid asshole in Ill. is here and if he's not on the water being a jackass he's on the road...being a jackass. I've lost three cars to dumb ass tourists since I got my DL, and I like this car...so I'm just staying home.

Is that the faux Sudafed they sell in the aisles now or the real Sudafed you have to ask the pharm, show a license and practically bend over for a search to get? (at least in Texas) Red M & M's are more effective on me that the new crap.
-
Tylenol Sinus Maxium Strength works best for me, but it's hard to get here since it can be used to make meth. So they keep it under lock and key. I have to like submit to a full out body cavity search to even buy it and then I can only buy so much at a time.

I'm talking genuine pseudoephedrine (which never made sense to me, speaking etymologically, but anyway) that I understand will only be available by prescription in the near future. The other crap does nothing for me, either.

Why doesn't it make sense? It's synthesized ephedrine that is an opposite of the original chemical.
-
No, no..."genuine pseudoephedrine". One of my roommates habitually referred to it as that.
-
What about genuine Splenda? Or a genuine tranny? They don't cancel each other out. Now do fake-sugar lines off the shemale's lower back.
-
You're really making a lot more of it than you ought. The juxtaposition of "genuine" and "pseudo" is goofy and funny to me. C'est ca.
-
I just wanted to mention tranny in a post, I can't believe you missed that.
-
Heh heh heh, heh heh heh...cool!
-
I just wanted to mention tranny in a post, I can't believe you missed that.
I didn't. You and your trannies.
-
Hey, Trannys need love! They're only half-people. They all die of either aids or being stabbed to death by disappointed Johns.
-
I'm judging you. But I am at least factoring in that a perverted uncle must have touched you inappropriately to make you this way and you can't really help it.
-
It was an aunt, but that has nothing to do with anything.
-
Oh course not...
*writes "NUTS!" in his notebook. *
Now tell me about your mother.
-
She neglected my brother during adolesence turning him into Phillip J Fry, she divorced my father after getting cancer and 2 years from his retirement, causing thousands of court costs (all of which he had to pay for, which wiped out his retirement) and took half of his remaining stuff, said Kary was an evil manipulitive cunt, oh and then stole my brother's car when he was going to school and working because SURVEY SAYS, it was hers anyways. Now she lives in his Florida condo fucking some loser guy who's drunk during the day. Lovely, ain't it.
-
And how does that make you feel?
-
Glad that she'll die alone because she already had cancer once, now she works at a supermarket.
-
Does she hook you up with discount groceries? It's the least she could do.
-
Oh god no. Yeah, that would never happen. If I ever showed up I'm sure she'd try to get me and my Dad arrested for harassment by simply seeing me.
Also, yesterday I found out that she sold her and my Dad's burial plots to her family. Now her aunt and gay uncle will be resting in their burial plots.
-
Did you Dad want to be buried next to her anyway?
-
Not really, but the thing was worth 20k, and she just sold it to a family member.
