Is it just me, or have I noticed a wave of hippy peace pussyness getting into the media at large?
This sparked up when I was in the middle of My-HiME and the army had invaded the school. I mean, if I had superpowers and an evil army had invaded and threatened to kill students, I'd probably fill the countryside with the dead bodies of the army. Yet the characters are all like "We can't kill the soldiers, we have to use non-lethal force." And of course, the series all ends like "OMG LOVE WILL CONQUER ALL!!"
I've actually noticed that about a lot of series from Japan. Even that Shinobi live action ninja movie was all "we shouldn't fight, we should all live in peace!" even though almost all the ninjas in the movie got slaughtered in some way or another. I think that's why I liked Elfen Lied as a fresh breath of air... heads actually rolled. It seems too many anime are, by the end, going on this pacifist bent where the characters whine about how they hate fighting and want to love everyone else.
Maybe Japan needs to grow some testicles and stop being such a hippe pacifist nation of sissies.
And it even seems to seep into American culture, although I blame that more on the whole Political Correct movement and the far left liberal hippie peacenicks, who are all like "OMG we can't show violence to children or they'll kill people when they grow up!" On Saturday cartoons like Batman you never see people die, and the badguys never get killed, they just go to prison.
A little bit of restraint is fine but all of this pacifist bull seems extremly forced, as if the writers are trying to force the idea of non-deadly force and love and peace onto the viewers.
Fuck that bullshit. I'm not happy unless the badguys are being mowed down, filled with bullet holes, and hung out to dry.

Watch Rambo 4 if you haven't already. That might help with that bloodlust.
But seriously, it ain't just anime...it's the whole damn world.
-
The correlation between showing violence on tv and actual violence happening has been proven before.
There was one study where there was a place (by place I mean some backwoods area of south america IIRC) that didn't have cable tv at all. A rise in crime was reported in direct response to the area getting cable. People are influenced by what they watch. For instance I obviously watched He-Man when I was little.
-
I watched He-Man too....but instead of wanting to get real tan and buff I find myself just wanting to constantly abuse Beast Man.
-
I watched Transformers when I was little. Luckily that didn't affect me at all
-
You are very Starscream like though.
-
Where the hell have you been? The A-team? G.I. Joe and every other cartoon from the eighties? Nearly everything from Disney? The whole sanitized violence gig's been ongoing for decades.
Why the hell would you expect heads to roll in Saturday morning cartoons anyway? Come the fuck on, man. Kids don't need to see that crap in entertainment meant for them.
-
A little blood now and then wouldn't necessarily be bad, but no, no head rolling perse.
-
I cure my bloodlust by killing random people in WOW.

What is starscream?
-
A star being raped?

Starscream isn't a what...but a who.

Unless by Transformers when you were little you meant Beast Wars, which will make me feel very old.
-
Remember when they used to say "kill" and "die" in cartoons? I think "destroy" went on to replace those terms.
Watching Dark Awakening and seeing zombie Optimus shoot the shit out of Galvatron while telling him to leave the cemetery or or die is f'in badass.
-
I miss those days....

I would expect the whole sanitized crap from America, since we're all like 'what about the wee children!', but Japan? I know they've been a bunch of peace panzies since WW2, but this is the country that brought us Godzilla's rampages and violent ninja video games.

I haven't seen Gundam Wing stuff in a loooooooong time.
S'all about Gundam 00 now, girlie girl.
-
I haven't been into anime in a loooooooooong time.
Do they still play that Sailor Moon show?
-
No idea. The first anime I've watched in 3 years has been Gundam 00, because supposedly it's the shit. So far, hasn't disapointed.
