Comedian George Carlin dies in Los Angeles at 71
Mon Jun 23, 2008 1:29am EDT

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Comedian George Carlin, a counter-culture hero famed for his routines about drugs and dirty words, died of heart failure at a Los Angeles-area hospital on Sunday, a spokesman said. He was 71.

Carlin, who had a history of heart and drug-dependency problems, died at Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica about 6 p.m. PDT (9 p.m. EDT) after being admitted earlier in the afternoon for chest pains, spokesman Jeff Abraham told Reuters.

Known for his edgy, provocative material, Carlin achieved status as an anti-Establishment icon in the 1970s with stand-up bits full of drug references and a routine called "Seven Words You Can Never Say On Television." A regulatory battle over a radio broadcast of the routine ultimately reached the U.S. Supreme Court.

In the 1978 case, Federal Communications Commission vs. Pacifica Foundation, the top U.S. court ruled that the words cited in Carlin's routine were indecent, and that the government's broadcast regulator could ban them from being aired at times when children might be listening.

Carlin's comedic sensibility often came back to a central theme: humanity is doomed.

"I don't have any beliefs or allegiances. I don't believe in this country, I don't believe in religion, or a god, and I don't believe in all these man-made institutional ideas," he told Reuters in a 2001 interview.

Carlin, who wrote several books and performed in many television comedy specials, is survived by his wife Sally Wade, and daughter Kelly Carlin McCall.

TMZ's named their article "George Carlin: Headlining in Heaven".  Uhhhhh... are we suuure?  :)

Those were 71 hard years.  I remember seeing one of his most recent HBO specials in 2002 or so and thinking that he already looked like he was in his 80's.

"Only 71" as in life expectancies are past that and as far as old people go, that's still not old enough to be going in the hospital with a heart hiccup and wind up deadsies.  If he had taken better care of himself, he might've been here twenty more years.  Not that I think he was all that wild about the idea of staying...

My dad died at 71 of heart failure brought on by working so hard all his life and shitty lawsuit-worthy medical non-care.

As for Carlin, I certainly hope the bum enjoyed life to the fullest.

Is that firearm powerful enough to obliterate the mouth?  Wouldn't there just be a giant hole in the back of her head, with the mouth still remaining?

The blast would obliterate her connective tissues that connect the jaw to the skull, causing it to fly around in a bloody splatter.

fuck you tom, im very sensitive to this issue. one of my dad's best friends (who i always considered an uncle) killed himself on xmas last year (yes, with a shotgun too) cause he found out his whorish girlfriend was cheating on him with his best friend. aahh :-(

i assume i would just die by natural causes, i partied my ass off for too many years.

It'd radically segment everything above the Adam's apple...at least, that part which wasn't completely obliterated.

You need to relax.  Most people probably know someone who shot themselves for a stupid reason that wasn't severe enough to merit the act.

i assume i would just die by natural causes, i partied my ass off for too many years.

I've never heard "loss of ass" listed as a cause of death.

Ehm no I don't think you have.
Title: Re: RIP George Carlin
Post by: IDE on Jul 13, 2008, 08:33:28 PM
Ehm yes...yes I know I have.  Why?  Because no girl has ever partied like me.  I've partied for days at a time non-stop.  I've partied my way into the emergency room and stage 4 mini comas.  I suppose its possible you've partied just as hard as I have but the only way to party harder than me is to actually die partying.

Plus even though I would swear were the same age if anyone asked the truth is I've been doing it longer.

It's physically impossible for a girl to out party me.  This claim is backed up by all the scientific evidence we currently know about alcohol and body weight.  For faye to have a chance to win she'd have to weigh in at least 200lbs.

But if she can stuff me in her vag then yes she wins by default.

I'd still doubt it but she'd have a chance if she'd flunked out of college once and skirted flunking a few a other times claiming ADD, Cancer, A dead grandfather, etc. to get back/stay in because her life was an amalgamation of every 80s movie ever made.

oh please. I'm from southamerica, we are born with coke and booze in our system. you guys just start drinking hardcore during your college years, thats why there are many dumbasses going to the hospital for severe intoxication. does that makes someone a winner? nope, just a moron. (not saying that you are IDE, i'm just talking in general). so yes, I would still win. Well maybe not now, but before yes

I think he may have a point here. Those us with Northern European genes may be more adept in this are. I mean we come from cultures where a good night out with friends ends with you throwing your buddy through the plate glass window at the local pub.

I'm of German, and apparently also Scottish, heritage. In Germany beer is the staple beverage. My ancient relatives were even owners of a local micro-brewery.
