Goodbye queues. ::) All of my ratings. Wasted.

Profiles feature going away
As a Netflix product manager I'm tasked with the wonderful job of helping members find movies they'll love. But today my job is more challenging as we've decided to terminate the profiles feature on September 1. Please know that the motivation is solely driven by keeping our service as simple and as easy to use as possible. Too many members found the feature difficult to understand and cumbersome, having to consistently log in and out of the website.
Continuing to maintain the profiles feature for the passionate few who use it (including myself) distracts us from the mission of presenting to all our members the easiest way to find the best titles for them from the 100k plus on DVD and the 10k plus available instantly.
We will do our best to find better ways for families to share accounts than the existing profiles feature and will continue to invest in improving the website experience in many different ways.

Bullshit. Drop-down, select name, and log the fuck in. There's nothing difficult about it. I can't even port over my ratings, history, and queue over to a new account. I'd have to start all over again.
Suck and blow. :poo:
-
Cocksuckers. I gotta put everything back in a queue? Fuckers.
I think people are getting DUMBER. Ridiculous. Can't figure out the Profile feature, jesus christ.
-
Funny, Blockbuster doesn't have that problem.
I didn't use that shit, because it was just that...a bunch of shit for the same overly vain people who piddle with every single imaginable MySpace profile layout and fill up threads asking for their favorite movie with everything they've seen in the past 8 years.
As for people getting dumber, you're right: the web is way more mainstream than it used to be. Mainstream = LCD of people = stupidity.
But losing the queue? Isn't that the main fucking function of online rental?

Too bad they don't concentrate on MAKING DVDS AVAILABLE ON STREET DATE. I've been trying to queue School Rumble OVA for two weeks now.

Truthfully, I almost never log-in. I stay logged in on my comp and Merla's, where I'll add movies 90% of the time. I imagine a lot of the people who used profiles did it the same way. Junior's profile was always logged in on his computer, mom's profile on her's, etc...
But losing the queue? Isn't that the main fucking function of online rental?
Yeah, really. I could understand the whole motivation being for profit, but I see nothing profitable in zapping a profile and its attached ratings and queues out of existence. I think if they said, "Look, we have to maintain our bottom line: Multiple profiles under one account just wasn't profitable and doesn't mesh with the plans for our future user interface. If you want to keep it, you have to pay", then I wouldn't have room to bitch. I pay, they port it. Bastids ain't even offering that. Pfft!

As evidenced by this quote from Lisa Tisdale when ppl said her daughter had teh AIDS:
"And what really upsets me is that anyone can write anything, and it ends up on the Internet. It's so irresponsible; so many people will just assume it's a fact."
It ends up on teh Internet! *writhes* What I says is for reals!!1`woifhogklelf;l GTFO and go to China if you want edited internets. Journalists and tabs that picked it up as a serious story based on a bunch of blogs w/o double-checking their facts need to be roasted, not the whole damn web. Besides, there's worse rumors than dying of AIDS.
-
That's irresponsible Journalism and tis most crappy!
Get me my beating stick!

So I'm a bit lost here. They're taking away the ability to have multiple screen names and queues under one account? I'm at a loss to how that would work anyway. Does it cost more for more than one profile? Or if all profiles are 2 disks at a time, you get 4 disks at a time if you have two profiles for the same price I spend for one profile?
-
First question: yes. Second question: depends. Third question: I don't know what the hell you're asking.
From my understanding, all accounts will be adjusted to be single profile with a single queue, with all discs coming out of that one queue. In our case, Merla (2 discs, who owns the account) will get mine (1 disc) and Schmoo's (1 disc) rental history and the entire four-disc allotment. Mine and Schmoo's profiles and queues will be vaped out of existence, along with our ratings. If you want another profile, it seems you have to get a whole other account.
-
So in other words the whole account allows 4 disks out at a time, with merla getting 2 disks at a time since she owns the account, and you and this schmoo getting 1 disk out at a time.
And I should probably know this, but who is schmoo?
-
Mommy Dearist.
You know I've always wondered how she came by that nickname, but never asked. Or...I did and I forgot the answer and am curious again.
-
I'm not sure if I want to know or not.
-
Merla reported receiving an e-mail from Netflix: Profiles are staying!11qffd Holy shit, the internets works?

Not that I'm not as pleased as fresh shat, but most companies don't usually kowtow to the public about something their people said less than two weeks ago was a "final" decision. Frankly, this makes me question their assertion (which I disagreed with in the first place) that only 1 to 2% of their users utilized profiles to begin with. Unless they were stupid enough to only count the account holder profile and not the three to four profile babies generated from it.

I'm not sure if I want to know or not.
D-did you just imply something risque? WTF. :nono:
Actually it's from....

I implied nothing of the sort. I merely stated that I was uncertain whether I wanted to know the implications or background of "Schmoo" as a nickname. Your mind implied something risque!
...Unless of course it's true.
-
::) You just did it again! E, that's nasty.
-
No no, you continue to make it sound dirty!
-
Are you sure you are just not projecting your own dirty thoughts onto her, because you find it hard to come to terms with your own inner sexual desires?
-
It certainly sounds that way. And he was such a good boy. The most trouble I ever had from him was when he turtle-ized the board with that Darkwing Duck midi. Now... he is a man. :nono:
