Title: Attack of the killer tomatoes!!!
Post by: The D on Jun 11, 2008, 06:01:56 PM
Apparently it's now unsafe to eat tomatoes. (http://news.google.com/news?q=tomato+scare&ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&hl=en&sa=X&oi=news_group&resnum=1&ct=title) Which might explain why all the fast food joints will not serve tomatoes.

Is it safe to eat tomatoes?

Yes, FDA officials say grape and cherry tomatoes and tomatoes sold attached to the vine are safe to consume. Any tomatoes grown in California also can be eaten, regardless of the variety.

What should I avoid?

For now, stay away from the standard round tomatoes and also plum tomatoes, which is some stores are sold under the name Roma.

How often you post here is in no way relevant to the question I just asked.

I heard about it late last week actually. Probably Friday or Saturday. I've been worrying more about how my aging car has made me broke and I can't pay rent.

Live in the car.  Problem solved.

Tomatoes are related to the Nightshade plant.  It's why a hundred years ago people wouldn't touch them with a ten-foot pole.

Fortunately it seems the salmonella-stricken produce came from south of the border, so state-side maters should be safe.  And it won't be long until my plants start bearing.

I think the mexicans deliberately poisoned the tomatoes.  Pass it around.

Good riddance, I hate tomatoes in burgers. Next one to go: pickles

White Castle and Krystal burgers are the best; Just meat, onions, mustard, and pickles.

Seriously. It's like he stopped being good after Signs, and even that had some serious plotholes that weren't apparent in Unbreakable or Sixth Sense.

Reading spoilers before watching a movie is in fact retarded.

I'm glad Mnightshamadadadng fails.  He was an arrogant shit after 6th sense, claiming that he "had the formula" to make the gumps come see his movies.
Title: Re: Attack of the killer tomatoes!!!
Post by: Rama on Jun 16, 2008, 11:20:06 PM
Looks like the formula went bad. Besides he doesn't seem to have kept to it very well. The Sixith Sense made like 670M+ I think his next closest film's box office is like 200M less then that.

I hate raw tomatoes so I'm happy that I don't have to deal with them on my food right now.

Return of the Killer Tomatoes is one of the best movies ever and tomatoes are delicious, cooked or raw.
My gwynn grown tomato plants should be bearing their fruit soon, and then world domination!

No, it's not.  I read this shit in under 20 minutes and save hours of my life.  And if I like it, I watch the movie anyway.  Granted, the best movie experiences were where I went to the movies, had no idea what I was getting myself into, and the movie turned out to be spectacular, but those are very few.
Title: Re: Attack of the killer tomatoes!!!
Post by: IDE on Jun 18, 2008, 12:59:13 AM
You watch the movie after you know what's going to happen and you think that's not retarded?

Mind Boggling!

I mean it's not like you read a book, you read a few crappy sentences that were never meant to convey the story.  You basically ruin the movie for yourself.  So instead of having a chance at those spectacular experiences you'd rather cut them out along with shit experiences...actually you don't even know if it is going to be a shit experience.  Just because something sounds like shit in a spoiler doesn't mean that when its presented in the medium that ya know...it was meant to be presented in it can't come off as a good film.

You can read reviews and see ratings without having to spoil yourself and doom your movie viewing existence to a bland middle of the road safety net against schlock.

Oh, quit laying an egg about it.  "Mind Boggling!"  "doom"!  Waah waah.

You watch the movie after you know what's going to happen and you think that's not retarded?

1.  Considering most movies are based from pre-existing material, it's not a huge leap.
2.  Nor is it a huge leap from reading a review or having a friend tell you about it.
3.  Most movies are predictable enough anyway.  I didn't have to read spoilers on Iron Man to know the old guy was gonna betray him.  (And I didn't, BTW.)
4.  Media outlets and boners like you can easily be found spoiling the movie without any work on my part.  You go spoil a book people waited for years to read, and then whine that I spoil myself on movies?  WTF?  Seriously?
5.  I am easily spoiled.  One sentence hints actually spoiled "The Sixth Sense" and "The Happening" for me.  ONE SENTENCE HINTS.  Not even direct spoilage.

I don't watch many movies these days.  I have to pick the ones I get to see carefully.  Unless it's an actor I really like or the preview or premise looks rad, I can't be bothered.  I don't have the time or money or internet connection for ten crappy movies just to see one decent one.

In my experience, yeah, it usually does.  In addition, stuff that sounds cool usually looks cool.

I much prefer the how and why more than I do the who and what, so that shit doesn't bother me.

I.E., How/why they die as opposed to who simply dies.

That's the only valid defense you made, and even that relegates you to a mediocre experience where you already know the outcome of the story.  By your own admission when you don't know whats going to happen it's the best experience.  I don't go into a movie without knowing what its about but I wouldn't go into one already knowing everything thats going to happen either.  Doing that means you'll never experience the big moments as they were meant to be experienced, you'll just think "meh, knew that was gonna happen," and go home to spend time with your cats.  Sure a lot of movies are predictable but it's those moments when they surprise you that make it all worth it.

And what I do with my spare time as it pertains to ruining other people's spare time is a non sequitor.  I can still whine about it.  It's like watching someone dump a bucket of dog shit on themselves when it could've been I who dumped the bucket of dog shit on them!  Plus I don't even want to dump dog shit on you so it's just painful to watch.

Instead of using your incredible powers of deductive reasoning reading hints you could consult previews, people you know offline and on and that share your taste in movies, as well as short descriptions like the ones found on movie theater sites you should be able to figure out if a movie sucks without actually finding out every plot point before ever seeing the movie.

I guess if you don't like movies that much it doesn't matter, but as someone that loves them I can't see how spoiling yourself is a good thing.

I think your chosen occupation is affecting your perception of the issue.

Some people don't give a damn, and, in most cases, I'm one of them.  If the movie's ignunt, I wanna know.  If I'm interested, I may still go see it, but at least I won't want my two hours back after gone into it knowing of the ignunce.  For instance, the previous Hulk movie sucked shit from a straw.  Had I not read about it, I might have wasted money going to see it.  Having seen part of it elsewhere since then, I'm glad for it.  Similarly, I'm glad to have heard something about the new one, as I'm more likely to see it given what I've heard thus far.

That may be the only valid defense offered, but it's sufficient.

Theres a difference though between reading a spoiler free review and "having heard thus far" and reading a complete spoiler of the movie.

Like many of the crappy movies I avoid, I already know what the rest of your post says without even giving it two minutes.  BTW I think you tend to make great points about things.  Too bad you insist on bogging them down in insults and bias.

Squirrel and Maxcon are right on the money.

Yeah, but it's so good. Plus you could just leave off the huge amounts of butter. It's actual the oil that gives it that distinct flavor.

Bah.  Not popcorn-related at all, but the last time I went to the movies, there were these chocolate-covered gummy bears.  Disgusto.
