Title: New Lost
Post by: Derrick on Feb 01, 2008, 06:20:40 AM
SPOILAGE!!!

Alot of people were upset with the opening, since it lacked a shocking moment with a song. I didn't seem to mind.

The Flashforward was freaky, and should set the tone for the season.

WHY DOES JACOB WANT HURLEY!?

Sun is still smokin, and so is Claire.

...and Rose.  :D

YEA!  GTFO!!

I'm so excited that it's back.  Soooo many more mysteries and questions though!

Did you watch Eli Stone afterwards?  That had that message from Oceanic Airlines but my friends and I got so annoyed with the previews for Stone that we didn't want to watch it.  Plus it looked kinda ghey.

It's the dude from Hackers. I should watch it on ABC.com, I heard the show is actually decent.

Fuck Eli Stone.  I actually like "Faith" but that preview made it annoying. I thought, let me give it a chance anyway.  Narration: corny.  Guy in suit waiting in cold village: stupid.  Two natives acting bitchy to poor, rich whitey: don't care.  Dipshit can't board horse/mule/whatever: change channel.  That falling off of crap was last funny since when?  Dick Van Dyke and I Love Lucy.  Fuck that.

The only reason I still watch LOST, aside from the whole "will watch until Desmond and Rosseau kick the bucket", is merely because I don't have other shows that I watch right now.  The premiere was actually enjoyable, but the fast forwards are very annoying.  And it's grating that they have it all planned out in, like, 16 ep seasons.  Just squeeze the remaining episodes into one and a half seasons or something.  Three of them?  Three years?  I can't take three years of Jack crying and Kate's squished face.  Once everyone gets back to work, do half of them and then set a date to do the other half.  And air it reasonably.  A little more than one quarter of the whole year set aside for Lost is super-ghey.  I hate this DBZ stretching out of shit.

And Ana-Lucia gorgeous?  Please.   ::)

I was disappointed when we found out those interesting people were on the island for Ben's little scraggly ass.  Then he saved the moment by saying he knew because he had a man on the boat.  I just hope that man isn't Michael (but likely it is).

Fuck you, Nuriko. Fuck you. I was hoping it was the guy who was talking to Jack and was missing.

The shithead's coming back to the show. FUCK FUCK FUCK! I hated Michael.

Ben is fucking badass, though. ^_^ I love how he doesn't know what the monster is. Locke asked that first, and yet even Ben doesn't know. ^^ YEEEEEEEEE!

I don't know, man.  I'm just guessing.  :p  I don't know if it's Michael.  If it is, that would be a shitty thing to do, but I imagine Lost would do something like that.

I'm sick of the dumb monster.  Where has he been all this time, sitting on his ass?  What kind of smoke monster is that?

Fuck a Lost. Eli Stone however........

When I first saw the pilot ep, I thought to myself...
"What the fuck is this? They fucking ripped off Wonderfalls!" This is true.
Underlying theme: person has something happen, person starts getting visions/hallucinations/whathaveyou, which can be explained by A: physical explanation (Jaye=Nervous Breakdown, Eli=Tumor) or B: Supernatural explanation (Jaye=Message from God/Universe/et al, Eli Stone=God/Prophet/et al)

Yes, Joan of Arcadia comes to mind as well but I never watched that.
I gave it another shot after the pilot after finding it mildly entertaining:

Dr Chang: "You no bother Doctah Chang! You want needles with Doctoah Chang you make appointment!"
Eli: "Yeah I got a brain tumor and am having hallucinations, think your needles can fix that?"
Dr CHang: "...Oh wow, Dude that totally blows."

And I think I'm going to start watching it, and what really sold me on continuing to watch it is in the second episode, they had the musical sequence in his law firm, and through the entire thing, the character has this look on his face that just screams: "I don't know whether this is funny or just outright disturbing. It might be both.!" and I just cracked up.

So yeah. Fuck a Lost. Watch Eli Stone.

Boo!  Stolen from The TV Zone:

Quote
The Hollywood Reporter's Nellie Andreeva has the Big "Lost" News of the Day: Carlton Cuse confirmed to her yesterday that the show will produce five more episodes which will be (sigh) still three short of the original order.

He told her, "We're going to have to hit the ground running, go from zero to 100 mph in a matter of days to make as many episodes as possible."

Darlton's (Carlton and Damon Lindelof) plan is apparently to squeeze the original eight remaining into five - which, no matter how you slice/dice it, is a stinging disappointment to "Losties." What's being dropped? What loose ends won't get tied? What mysteries will remain stubbornly unsolved? (Eh, they'd probably remain stubbornly unsolved anyway...) These final three (shortened) seasons will be as carefully mapped as any final arcs in TV history - now the map has a bunch of white spaces on it.

Enough whining and moaning. At least five is better than none.

There was some hope - admittedly dim - that ABC would order the final eight when the strike ended (for a total of sixteen this season), but in these now very parlous times, the strike has forced the network to cut costs, and this is just one obvious way.

At least we're all winners now that Cavemen's been canceled.  But suck ass, only five?

It makes no sense, since it'd just be flooding into the summer. Is ABC so concerned with a new romantic comedy starring Phucking Heiress-Whore as a down and out socialite?
Title: Re: New Lost
Post by: B E C K on Feb 15, 2008, 03:35:25 PM
Last night's ep was actually great.  I cringed when it turned out to be Sayid-centric because despite his bad-assery I'm usually bored to sleep with episodes that have him as the featured character.  But it turned out good.  Not looking forward to a Kate episode though.  Blah.  I usually skip her episodes.  Maybe they'll surprise me this week though.

I was doing some work so I left the TV on ABC and caught Eli Stone.  I get how the idea of a guy with a, uh, brain thing "participating" in visions is unique and funny.  I totally get that.  I actually enjoyed when he'd get thrown into a vision and then find himself under a table or something.  Eli himself is actually an okay guy, too.  But the side characters are all stale cliches from other sources.  The episode I saw presented Eli with at least three individual dilemmas:

1) Eli attempts to convince his doctor brother to lie and say that Eli is physically well when he's not.
2) Eli, an attorney, is faced with the knowledge that a boy has committed perjury and said he was abused by his father.  Apparently, the boy and his parents are participating in a scheme to get the mother, a member of the National Guard deployed in Iraq, discharged from the military.  Eli discovers this and must decide whether or not to tell the truth.
3) Eli must deal with his "being a prophet" and decide whether or not to burden his fiancee with this.

Each one of these could've presented some depth to this show.  Instead, it is dealt with in the most predictable, trite manner possible.

Eli's doctor brother says he can't lie and makes a fuss and then later lies rather easily.  Eli's boss-- his prospective father-in-law no less-- remarks that the doctor who signed the papers declaring Eli has a clear bill of health is also a Stone.  How the hell does he not know Eli has a brother that's a doctor?  With the same last name no less!?

Eli lets the family get away with their cheesy-ass scheme.  We see it coming from miles away.

Eli breaks up with his fiancee.  She's all, "Eli no blah blah" and he plays this noble martyr role.  Of course he was gonna break up with her.  The audience knows this because this show is predictable enough to do that, Eli has little devotion to the woman in the first place, and we are set up to accept a possible romantic rival for Eli's affection.  Lame.

So much more could've been done with this show.  If it lasts beyond two seasons continuing in this direction, I'll be shocked.

Sayid working with Ben is like the plot of a potential badass movie.

Next week we find out that Sawyer and Kate get off the island, have a baby, and since Kate's mom is dead there's no one to testify that she killed Roy. So she's all happy, except creepy Jack constantly calling her.

Title: Re: New Lost
Post by: B E C K on Feb 22, 2008, 05:15:56 PM
I know but I didn't use them because I didn't want any obscurity on the picture.

Charlie dying for nothing fails.  They need to save this.  Did they ever bury Charlie?  Did we see a dead body other than what was floating around in the room?  If not, they need to retcon with someone swimming in and reviving him.  Useless crappy death.  At the very least, something significant should've occurred with Desmond and his powets, but nothing ever did.  And Claire and Hurley both got over it quickly for Charlie being so close to both of them.  LOSE LOSE LOSE.
Title: Re: New Lost
Post by: Derrick on Feb 23, 2008, 02:20:03 AM
I think they're hurting on the inside.

My theory? The Key turning was a save point. Eventually Desmond will be faced with losing Penny forever to save everyone else. Jack will off himself, Kate will be killed, and everyone on the island will be threatened. That creepy chick will come back and offer Desmond that he can return to that point, but the Island will be removed from the Earth forever.

But mainly Charlie died because they weren't using him as a main character anymore and it pissed the actor off. What's terrible is, in the season 3 DVD's bonus thingy, there's an awesome scene of Charlie chopping wood after Desmond screams "YOU'RE GONNA DIE, BROTHA!" and he's all emo and shit. Kate comes out of the woods, and offers him to go with her, Sayid and Locke to the flame (why he didn't go is beyond me), he refuses and she kisses him on the cheek. So sweet.
Title: Re: New Lost

It'd piss me off, too.  Too many ingredients in the stew pot.  What's the point of Juliet?  Nothing.  What's the point of Jin?  Nothing.  What's the point of Claire?  Nothing.  They needed to do much more with the people they already had than just keep adding and adding and hoping overloading with characters changed anything.  Poor Rosseau.  Horribly underused.  I hope Miles and Charlotte die soon.  The other two can bite it next season.
Title: Re: New Lost

Title: Re: New Lost
Post by: B E C K on Feb 24, 2008, 03:39:26 PM
I like Miles, too.  That's why he needs to die.  His death would be spectacular no doubt.  Sometimes the best characters in things can come from tiny doses.  Having all the main characters live and weeded into shorter and shorter spans of screen time until you don't know what else to do but kill them blows.  Look at Shannon.  Wasteful.  Too bad instead of Nikki and Paulo, the people who had gotten buried were two regulars.  That would've blown our minds.  "They can't do that!  No!"  Instead we have this Sun-preggo/Kate-Sawyer-Jack bullshit.  They should just save that crap for Grey's Anatomy.
Title: Re: New Lost
Post by: B E C K on Feb 24, 2008, 03:44:39 PM
Ana-Lucia was also miscast as well as misused.  They should've made her an older, charming Latina, not a gruff pachuqita like Michelle Rodriguez.  (And even then, she had a limited amount of chemistry with Sawyer, not Jack.  But it's like they kept trying to force the Jack thing.)  In fact, they should've just combined Ana Lucia and Juliet, where one of Ben's people takes on the identity of a dead cop in the tail section of the plane.  Now that would've been something.  I guess the plus to killing Ana Lucia is that they killed Libby, too.  I hated that they killed off Libby at the time but at least Libby has a better death and wasn't given a sorry-ass one like Charlie.  (Though I wish Hurley would mention her more.)

technically the island is 2004.  each episode only represents a day or 2 on the island.

Last week's episode represented day 95/96...which would be Christmas day.  This is either a giant error, or they'll come back to it in some way (like, its not christmas for boat/helicopter people)

Yeah, I suggest you watch it. They made it look like Jinn was running to Sun's aide while she's giving birth, but everything kept going wrong. As he finally gets there, the stuff is for someone else. At first you're like "OH SNAP! HE BLEW OFF SUN TO WORK FOR THE DAD!" Until he says: I've only been married for two months.

So he is either dead, or brainwashed etc. and working for the dad. Eitherway I am not liking the future.

Also: CHARLES WIDMORE!!! MICHAEL!!!

I assumed he had to fake his death and he remarried as a cover or something, but then there's that whole working for Sun's dad part that doesn't jive unless it was a flashback and he's deadsies.

What part did Zoe Bell play?

She's this white stunt woman who came out in that Grindhouse movie (she was the one on the hood of the car) and she also stunt doubled for Uma in Kill Bill and for Lucy Lawless in the Xena series.  I guess I'll have to see it next week after all.

Yes, Zoe Bell played Regina in several episodes of Lost this season.  She didn't appear on screen until this episode.

Who thinks Sawyer will bite it?  I think he's very likable but he's living off of the fumes from the breath of salivating fangirls at this point.  Very little is being done with him.  LOST does very little with good solid characters and then kills them off as if doing things that way give it any impact whatsoever.  Boone's death IMO was the most powerful death there, because it was early in the show's run and you're like "They killed a castaway!  The hot one, too!"  And Ethan was a good death.  RIP Eko.  RIP Charlie.  RIP Jin.  Shannon, Artz, the remaining tailees, Nikki and Paulo were all fodder.  We knew none of those clowns would live.  Kelvin and Goodwin have more interesting stories at this point than any of those losers.  Sad.

Sawyer won't die yet, but I think he'll die probably next season, spurring Kate to leave the Island. Chances are Ben will do it, since he's evil like that.

I don't see him leaving this season either, but his future looks incredibly bleak.

The Oceanic Six thing is for this season only.  Season 3 built on the others and their culture, season 2 was about the hatch. Season 4's underlying thread is the Oceanic Six.  we find out who they are, where they went, and why they left all this season.

The one week I wanted to see the rerun and they don't show it.  I'd post in rage except I *knew* this was going to happen to me somehow.  Fucking Aston Kutcher.  I hope his new series tanks.  I watched five minutes and it's already a load of shit.  Yeah, it's reaaaaal cold outside, better dress like a sherpa.  Fucker.  And that crack that one guy made about his suit being expensive.  No shit.  I can spot a top dollar suit, too.  This is probably because everyone on TV magically owns one, whether their character feasibly makes the money to buy one or not.  The odd dress the teacher was wearing was bad enough, now we have the catty vamp, the flaming gay (as if parents would want him anywhere near their kids, he might spread "gay"!), the two guys and their expensive suits, the obvious love interest.  Fuck this show.

Anyway....  I'm glad they offed Karl.  I hope the French woman isn't actually dead though.  I didn't see an obvious serious wound like Karl's, but I tend to be blind like that.  The highlight of the episode was Mr. Friendly getting real friendly will Arturo.  "I like to indulge."  Yeah, so much that when you finally get shore leave from that miserable island, you kiss the guy you just fucked up the ass on the cheek like your grandma.  Very believable, shithead.

I can't.  I still have dial-up at home, so forget watching anything here.  I'd do it at school but abc.com's shit won't load for me on the school comps.  I tried doing it to watch "Dirty Sexy Money" and had the dumb message pop up about needing to install some shit.  I guess if I get desperate, I could take Merla's comp to the school and make it work off of her's.  But right now I'm not desperate.  I'm just bothered.  Maybe it'll still rerun.
