Today, a shoplifter admitted to me that she was shoplifting.
There was a woman with a bunch of DVDs she looked like she was trying to hide, and so they had an employee keep an eye on her. I was standing there and she walked past me and said "Don't think you can catch me, I'm a professional, you'll never catch me... I'm just the decoy, my partner's gotten away with the goods."
I reported this to the manager and we tried to capture her only to find out she had left, and left the DVDs she was pretending to steal... why she didn't take them is beyond me.
Now that I think about it I should have beaten the shit out of her right then and there.

You didn't apprehend her?
Dumbass.
-
You're not even a man now.
-
His version of "apprehending" the chick would probably have been just standing there stupidly and asking in a stern tone of voice what she thought she was doing. And his knees would have been shaking, because he'd be scared she had sharp nails or something.
-
What exactly is your job again? I'm not sure what your duties entail, but you should've reported her immediately to management.

Ah, yes, and all you guys are so much tougher, if she pulls a weapon you're dead, or maybe she'll beat you off with a handbag and scream for help, and pretend you're attacking her so the rest of the shoppers will mug you thinking you're trying to rape her.
I'm sure she had a backup plan.
-
And you couldn't have tried to stop her and call security and/or the police?
-
Do you work at the store?
-
LOL!!!
And I'm not answering the poll, because "canibalize" was not one of the options.
-
Oh my fuck, I left off an "N"!!!!!!! :o :o :o
I'm so sorry, you guys.... :( I just hope you can all forgive me.
You fucking jerks.

Yes, because your post completely inferred that you reported it immediately to a manager. It sounded like you kinda just sat there and absorbed it before doing anything to me. Answer the question. And how'd she escape if someone was keeping an eye on her?

Well I would have said to apprehend her but that all depends on what kind of powet a worker has if any. When I worked at Bath and Body Works once a thief was out of the store and in the mall area we couldn’t do a thing about it. Needless to say many a thief got away with countless merchandise before management got smart and started keeping the boxes of expensive stuff empty.

i fucking hate thieves, u should have fuck her over:-D

She told you she was just the diversion so that her friend could really steal stuff w/o you knowing.
If you ever see her again in the store you can ban her.
At target Ive seen some of our security tackle the shoplifters, but its always the bad lookin ones that get caught.
1st rule of shoplifting: dont look the part

I used to wear baggy pants, and one time I heard one of the workers at Blockbuster tell one of her underlings to watch me and my friends.
-
They were afraid that you might have spilled the jars that they keep movies in.

Nuri: I reported it immediately to the Manager. The lady was gone by the time we got out onto the floor. The person that was supposed to be keeping an eye on her was doing something else, god knows why. It's too bad the security guys were on their lunch breaks (and that they decide to take their breaks at the same time.. the lazy asses).
Of course, what could I had done. Besides admitting she was helping an accomplace shoplift, she had not stolen anything herself. She had not put anything in a pocket, or tried to conceil anything.
Should I have tried to stop her? The question is could I? I could tell her to stay there while I call the police and she would have flipped me off and ran. Had I tried to grab her and hold her down she would have struggled, and possibly escaped my grasp and ran still. Even IF I was to subdue her, what could I do, the instant I try to get up to call a manager/police officer, she takes off. If I try to fight her, and I swing first, other customers might attack me thinking I've gone mad, management will be upset because I'm fighting and scaring off customers, and I might be charged with assault and spend Jail time.
True, it's a pretty even match between me, being a skinny 6 foot nerd, and a shorter 40ish woman, but without help it would have been a bit crazy.
Don't get me wrong, I wanted to slap her silly, but doing so might have opened up a can of worms. But, if she does show her face again, I probably won't be so tender.

Ha ha, reminds me of Wal-Mart where "looking the part" = "not being white". Looking the part is a big part of it though.
Besides calling the manager or security, you've done all you can do in most cases. Anything else would just jeopardize your employment there. Not worth it.

I sure as heck dont go out of my way to get shoplifters, thats what the security cameras are for.
Security is of course not infallible and there are plenty of holes where noone looks where you can rip things out of the package.
Personally I dont like stealing, I like feeling like Ive earned everything that I have.
On the other hand, the idea that some people are stealing from a big corporation doesnt really bother me, i still get my paycheck.
I'll just see them and say to myself "hey...they are probably stealing stuff." and I just keep on walking.
When my boss yammers on in the morning about corporate earnings and net gross and assest protection I just space out.
I feel pity for people who have to worry about numbers or have to sit in front of a computer all day stressing about making the deadline.
Can you tell i live in my parents basement?
