So this is where we all bitch about the holiday season even though the exact same crap happens every year and we still put up with it like the consuming robots that we all are. But hey! It's Christmas!
I was looking at movies to buy my brother at Best Buy but I couldn't really look at any because this woman practically forced me down the aisle while she was looking at movies. Everytime I stopped to look, she would scoot my way and so I would have to scoot away because OMG I need personal space. :finger:
That's about it. And traffic. My town never has bad traffic until the holiday season. I have 99% of my Christmas shopping done, I just didn't have enough cash on me to buy one more thing.
I got my dad a tin of mixed nuts
My mom a bucket of margaritas (I liked them on Thanksgiving, but I got a smaller bucket and Strawberry-Mango) which I still need to buy the tequila for - I saw some mango flavored stuff at a liquor store but who knows if that's any good.
My brother is getting Boondock Saints and Snatch
My grandma is getting some Sudoku puzzles. She had hip replacement in May so she can't get out of the house much especially in this weather.
I got my boyfriend the best gift - a 3 pack of WOW dungeon guide, Atlas, etc. I went like $3 over our set limit of $50 but whatever. He wanted it a few months ago but didn't want to fork over the cash.
Yesterday I left my mom a voicemail saying that if she still needed shit to buy me, she should buy like Family Guy and The Office on DVD. She never checks her voicemails and if I ask her for something specific, I don't get it unless I bug her about it for months. It's annoying.
What about you guys?
-
I got my dad an electronic sudoku game.
My mom is getting a food processor.
Sister is getting the old school Wonder Woman TV show first season DVD set (I don't know if she wants this I just figured it would be funny)
Brother in Law is getting Simpson's movie (and Willow for the lulz).
A girlfriend that buys you WoW crap? I've been getting jipped.
Or one of them got a me LOTR sting replica after the first movie came out, but that was awhile ago.
-
Mom - digital picture frame
Dad - golf balls, tees (he loses a lot in the course of a round), and the new Eagles cd
Sister - The last two Harry Potter movies on DVD
Other Sister - ...shit, I forgot her. Oh well, that's her fault for living in Seattle.
-
shit my sister just IMd me and said she got me something good...
Now I can either stick to my guns and give her wonder woman or try to snag another gift at the airport.
-
I got my and my best friend a bunch of small stuff. Everyone else get nothing, because I'm jobless and poor and asking my dad for money to buy him a present is tacky as fuck.
-
Got my shopping down two weeks ago.
Dad - Harry & the Hendersons DVD
Mom - Season 2 of Bones
Li'l Bro - A CD Case
Big Bro - Shaun of the Dead
Best Friend - Hogfather
-
I'm not buying anything for anyone.
-
I'm not buying anything for anyone.
Hahaha. You're a bitch.
-
I thought about baking this year, but I just got too lazy. May whip out a batch of peanut butter cookies later if I need to though.
I got my mom 35$ on a set of earrings she wanted. Merla and I were actually going to go half and half on the earrings, but when my mom found out, she insisted we go three ways because I guess she feels guilty about us spending the money or something. And I also got her "Miracle on 34th Street" on DVD since she lost her VHS copy, wrapped it and stuck it under the tree as a surprise.
I got Merla "Love Actually" on DVD, which she's been wanting. I also got her something else, but I'm not saying what because she might come and see it on the Internets.
I bought myself Season 1 Part 2 and Season 4 of Ninja Turtles on DVD as well as Season 1 of Avatar, the latter two of which I have yet to receive in the mail but that doesn't really matter. (Merla got me Season 1 Part 1 as her present to me and another Turtles disc which hasn't arrived yet.) I was gonna buy myself a laptop (which I've been wanting for the past year), but decided to wait and see if the models I'm looking at go down in price at the beginning of next year because the one I really, really want is above the price ceiling I gave myself.
And I bought each of the cats a catnip toy.
I don't buy presents for anyone else, although Merla gave our dad Harry Potter 1 and had me sign my name on the gift wrapping along with her's.
-
It's not that I'm a bitch, it's just that most of my family is in other countries and even though I'm going to go visit my 2 uncles (that live near here, in DC and MD) I can't buy any presents cause I haven't been paid for the last 4 months and my first/next paycheck is next thursday. Maybe I'll give my little cousin 20 bucks
-
Me, Karyann and her Brother got her mom an antique box which we're filling with those polished stones they sell at hippie stores and then we put a nice silver necklace with a purple crystal at the end.
Kary's Brother we got some boxing gloves for when he goes on a heavy bag.
Kary's Mom's Boyfriend we got some small things since we don't know the guy that much.
I haven't got Karyann anything nor has she got me anything since we're too hectic visiting everyone and buying gifts for other people. I haven't bought anything for my Dad either, but he's going through a bad divorce right now. He probably just needs sex.
-
Then you know exactly what to buy him. :)
As the for the rest of Merla's gift, since she opened it already, I got her an iTunes giftcard and the Nausicaa movie. I didn't see any family this Christmas since Merla and I would've normally made an appearance together for a couple of hours and then come back home, but since Merla can't drive now I just stayed home with her.
-
Why she can't drive??
I got two belts :-(
-
She had her wings clipped so no flying either.
-
Merla's being kited?
-
Well her poop injured a small child when she was flying around one fine afternoon and they thought it was for the greater good. Now she just hangs on the side of her cage and squawks at herself in the mirror. It's really a sad state of affairs.
-
Merla's being kited?
all the way back to the throne room!
-
Why she can't drive??
She had surgery.
-
Ooo i didn't know that!I hope she's ok!
I don't drive either, but its only cause I don't want to (never learned, too afraid)
-
I don't want to either but that'll have to change after I graduate if I want any lucrative work. Unless I move somewhere where the transit system isn't suckage.
-
That's why I want to stay in Philly and got a job in Center City, so I didn't need a car and I would only need to walk or take the public transportation
-
I was checking my finances today, and I realized that I didn't go into a Walmart at any point in the month of December. Which is pretty good, as I'll usually go there once a week to get cold cuts or razor blades or something equally pedestrian...or use their cashiers and a pack of Wrigley's as an ATM when I'm low on petty cash.
Mama got a devotion book. Brother got the second and third Boondock strip collections. Nephew #1 got a pocket watch. Nephew #2 got a Soft Air pistol (from Walmart...but I sent someone else after it :P) and 2000 pellets for it. Baby Niece got a teddy bear and a Bible story book. Granny got a brand new Bible that I went halfsies on with a cousin.
Sister-in-law got some boots my mother was going to give her for her birthday but didn't because she was acting witchy at the time. I personally would have liked to give her a 125 grain Hydroshok .357 Magnum round to the face, but hiding the body would be problematic, and Jesus would disapprove.
I didn't get much, but what I got wasn't bad.
-
I am boycotting Walmart. I refuse to shop there unless absolutely necessary, and I actually haven't bought a single thing there my entire life except once, back in 2002, when I was out west and there were no other stores like it for miles.
-
I will never buy anything from cartoon network until they take "That crooked sipp" or whatever its called off the air. But since I never bought anything from them before...oh wait I did buy a space ghost t shirt and I was planning on buying a harvey birdman shirt but they won't get my 18$ now.
-
Is this turning into a boycott thread? Oh boy!
I still boycott Burger King and Blockbuster. I was thinking of easing off of my boycott of Dell, but now I'm not so certain. I tried applying for credit and their website kept fuckering up on me. Every single time I come close to buying from them, something goes wrong. It's like this company doesn't want my money! Anyway, I fell in love with a Sony Vaio, so I probably won't go for a Dell anymore anyway.
Wal-mart I've been considering but I get so many neat things there. Not to mention I'd rather get groceries there than at La Fiesta and Handy Andy. Bleh.
And as much as I kinda like HP, they're making tallies on my list. Granted I love my comp and everything but when I first got it, it malfunctioned and I had to send it back. When I first got my printer, it malfunctioned and I had to send it back. Am I going to have to send back everything I buy from them? My printer hasn't printed red for years and I've tried everything to fix it. It's not that old. That's kinda messed up. Then poor Squirrel isn't giving me confidence in their laptops, which was already shaky at best for me.
-
Boycott shmoycott. I wish that fucking word would disappear from people's vocabularies. It makes personal angst sound oh so palpable.
That said, I won't be buying HP laptops in the foreseeable future. Then again, five years ago I said I'd never buy a laptop, period...I therefore hedge my bet by saying "foreseeable future". Twenty years ago, nobody figured a Magnavox would be worth a shit, but they make decent TVs nowadays. So I won't preclude the possibility of me buying another from them at some point, but any HP laptop I buy's gonna have be an ass-wiping, blow-jobbing, supper-cooking style laptop.
The HP photo printer and scanner I own, OTOH, are the shit. They were worth every penny, for whose acquisition it took quite a few.
I've considered not going back to Walmart. It's not impossible to just quit going for the hell of it, as I evidenced earlier. But until I find a place where I can buy nearly as cheaply and conveniently, I'm not going out of my way to pay more at more places per grocery/toiletry/etc. run.
I had maintained a McDonald's "boycott" for some time, but I came to realize that it had little to do with any political or personal issues with the company...I just quit going because their food sucks.
-

You think so? I don't see it. Where does the hate come from? I'm protesting bad service, I don't go there and spend money. The word seems appropriate enough.
-
I think it sounds a little extreme. Though I like when people are like "I'm boycotting this place" and when you ask why, they don't have a solid reason. "Well.... they like treat their employees bad or something."
I feel like if you're going to boycott something, you need a large following of people to stand outside with signs.
To continue with X-mas shopping: Our employee Christmas party is this Sunday and we're doing Secret Santa. I got my coworker who is like 5'0" and weighs about 80 pounds. She always complains about not having boobs so I bought her these water bra pads you can slip into your cups. They're huge too!

.
NOOOO DON'T BUY A VAIO! those computers SUCK ASS.
Just invest a little more and get yourself a Mac. Thank me later.
No, but really. I think that you can pay it with like 30 bucks a month..I don't know how many years would that be haha but , believe me, it's worth it. NO viruses.
-
Its time for me to get a laptop and I think I'm gonna go with a mac too just because thats LA style, which means I guess I'll be buying another ipod :/
I really wanted to try another brand of mp3/video player but if I end up going mac I like everything to match.

Seconded. Vaios are like cars - the minute the warranty runs out, it stops working, and they're nearly impossible to fix. Macs are awesome. My brother bought one that's about four years old and it runs better than most new PCs.
-
Merla's first laptop was a VAIO. She got it around 2002 and it works fine. The only thing that's wrong with it is one of the hinges is broken so it's a bitch to open and close. But that only happened last year, so it still functioned great in the years she used it steadily.
I'm a little wary about a Mac. Not that I don't think its a good machine, but I don't want to deal with any compatibility issues. A brief look at them and it seems they don't have what I want in my price range anyway, so even if they are teh bestested machinez of all timez, I still can't afford one and have to go lower-ended anyway.
-
Well the compatibility issues do suck. But then you get used to it. It hurt me so much when I found out I couldn't use my webcam with my version of the msn, because they still haven't made a new version with the webcam availability. But then I do have the Ichat, that it is like mac's version of aim. The other thing is that macs obviously don't come with any of the microsoft word, access, excel, powerpoint, etc. Now you can buy it for a mac though, so that's good. But I think that you only need those when you are in classes.
-
As long as final draft runs on a mac I should be fine writing wise.
-

Neither does any non-Mac I'd be buying, but I have already have a copy of Microsoft Office so I'm okay on that.
-
I have typed on Macs... I didn't see the appeal. My friend Lisa swears by them, but my experience with them has been luke warm. With the fervor Apple-fans cling to Macs, as a PC user it's just a little different with new keystrokes.
I do own an iPod, though.
-
Soon the macs and the mexicans will conquer the world!
-
They shall call themselves the Maccicans and doom us all.
-
"Mac-sicans"? Because no way will they pronounce that second 'c' if it's hard.
