So Sunday I was channel surfing and came across this...."All-in-one-night Miniseries" by the name of Hogwatch. YES. Upon initial thought the name made me think of some Harry Potter wannabe thing.
Upon further viewing I ended up watching most of it, leaving me with a "WHAT THE FUCK was THAT?" sense of awe, yet I was also intrigued. It said the miniseries was based on a novel, so I looked up Terry Pratchet. Fucker's got like 30-odd books based on this "Discworld" series, and Hogwatch was one of the books.
Apparently Death, yes they personified death as the grim reaper and all that, was basically going around as Santa Claus, or "Hogfather" as they called'em, so people wouldn't stop believing in him so the sun would come up the next day. ....Yeah it was pretty crazy but I got to admit there was something pretty funny about Death going around as ol' Saint Nick...especially when he's about to totally axe these three bastards and he goes "So The question becomes: Have you been naughy....or nice?" And he totally throws them off a gorge. ...Kinda funny.
Anyone read any of his shit?
-
Hogwatch? That sounds like farmers trying to wrestle pigs in a pen.
-
That name sounds familiar.
-
It does to me, too, but when I looked him up in Wikipedia, I wasn't familiar with anything he's done.
-
Dumbasses.
-
You are. Your ass is.
-
I almost watched this...almost. Eh...they'll rerun it before X-mas hits. All these stations plow through their Christmas stuff right after thanksgiving and have nothing left when it actually gets close to the actual holiday and so they dig up the stuff they should have just saved for it in the first place.
-
WELL I Got Hogfather last night and finished reading it at aobut 9:00. Only 292pages so not terribly hard reading. I'll probably go back through and read it again though.
It's.....weird. The characterization of Death though is hilarious so I might look into a few of the other books.
-
Ha ha, I read "other boobs".
-
I'm gonna download this.
I've been meaning to read Pratchett's Discworld stuff for years, but I keep putting it off. I'm pretty sure someone I know owns them all, so it'll be convenient at least.

He died!?
-
I'm still wondering how that account, which I've never seen before, has 4000 posts.

I don't see the implication that he's not alive.
-
I hope he didn't die. He needs to keep churning out books for my amusement.
Terry Pratchett is awesome. :)

He's talking about the account name. The Spirit of St Sabat
-
C-C-C-Combo breaker!
-
What I said still applies.

And while we're on the subject, how the hell did that Derrick chap get 1900 posts?
-
Saint Sabat would be dead even if he wasn't a spirit. I think you have to be dead to be granted sainthood.
-
I accrue posts from beyond the grave.
But I wouldn't watch Hogfather a second time.
Speaking of Christmas, you guys got anything that you try to see at least once every year? Here's my list:
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Home Alone
Jingle All the Way
Scrooged
Mickey's Christmas Carol
That's just off the top of my head. It's been a few since I last caught Scrooged. Maybe this year.
And you have to watch it on TV. Owning it is a cheat. A cheat I tells ya!
-
Im watching that stop animation rudolph one with the baby newyear right now. Those and the ralphy movie are the only ones I see for sure.
-
I used to watch Mickey's Christmas Carol every year, but then several years here and there I'd miss it. It always comes on with little to no advertising. I almost caught the Peanuts Christmas, but then I remembered that Peanuts is gay. Anyway, so no, there really isn't anything I watch religiously for Christmas. No pun intended.
-
I watch the Nightmare Before Christmas religiously between Halloween and Christmas, usually around Thanksgiving.
-
On TV? Because owning it's a cheat.
-
For some reason I was reminded of the skit on TV where the town's people in It's a Wonderful Life found out that Mr. Potter had the money that Uncle Billy lost. The armed and angry mob beats him up.

Well then I'll cheat then!
-
Then that doesn't answer Sabat's question.

Brutal. (http://kotaku.com/gaming/news/terry-pratchett-diagnosed-with-early-onset-alzheimers-333458.php)
-
That blows. You can cry on my shoulder if you must. I promise not to feel you up too much.
-
Alzheimer's is fucking horrible. I would not wish it on my worst enemy. And the fact that this guy in particular has so many ideas constantly percolating in his brain makes it all the worse. I've only started reading his Discworld series, so there's plenty of material for me to slog through, but what a shitty thing to happen. His life is going to be ruined and he won't even realize it.
-
Would it be better if he did realize it? Granted, there are few modes of death that are pleasant, but there are a million worse ways to go.
-
I think quick and painless would be better than protracted and oblivious.
-
But aren't quick and painless deaths usually sudden ones? At least he has time to write some more and get his affairs in order.
-
I can't argue with that.
-
Doesn't this guy have altzhiemers?
-
I'm going to have to assume you're talking about someone else other than Terry Pratchet in order not to slap you.
-
If I am talking about Terry Pratchet and I'm also right will you show me your boobs?
-
Show me your boobs. That tight shirt is a tease.
-
you've seen my boobs before haven't you?
-
I blinked and missed them.
-
Yes Pratchett has the early signs of Alzheimers.
Wang.
