I think their attempts at milking 300 by having Beowulf yell "I. AM. BEOWULF!" is pitiful.

Is that where that was from?  I haven't seen "300" but everytime Beowulf yelled that, I felt like "Hey, some dude already yells like that but I don't know who".  And it was kinda annoying.  But at least he dies anyway.  And that one's not a spoiler because it's not movie-specific.  It's in the fricken poem.  It'd be like spoiling "Hamlet".

On the bus, some chicks were talking about the movie before it was released and one of them was all:

B1:  "What is Beowulf?"
B2:  "You've never read it.  We covered it in English."
B1:  "Is that where [inaudible] and marries his mother."
B2:  "I don't know."
B1:  "No, no, that's Oedipus."
B2:  "Yeah, yeah."
B1:  "Then I don't know what Beowulf is."
B2:  [explains vaguely]
B1:  I want to pick up the book and read it before I go see it.

When I told Merla about this, she was just impressed they even knew who the fuck Oedipus was.

I finally saw it, and I was expecting 300 part 2 and instead I got the viking version of The Spirits Within.

What ever happened to making real sets and using real actors? The fuck is with this fake looking CG shit?
