Title: TMNT has 2.1 stars at Netflix...
Post by: B E C K on Oct 25, 2007, 11:45:56 PM
...out of 5 from "raters like [me]" apparently.  TMNT as in the movie.  And Flushed Away has 2.0.  For the non-Netflixers, 2.0 is "didn't like" and 3 is "liked".  Was TMNT really that stinky?  Verdict?  Or are these just the ratings of bitter mooks who were expecting high art or mutant rhinos or somethin'?

I liked it but I was really young at the time.  Does it hold up during the nextflix era? When the fans who are renting it there have grown up?  I guess not.

"TMNT" is the one that came out March (?) of this year.  Which is when I guess IDE was much, much younger than he is now, 8 months later.  :P

And they're stupid, it was good. I was actaully very surprised because it was way better than I had expexted.

Well did you go in having low expectations?  Did that help?  I'm thinking people went in expecting teh greatest movie of all times!!1111 or something.

"TMNT" is the one that came out March (?) of this year.

Yes, that's the one.

He was only a lad of 22 back then.  I'm surprised he doesn't remember the first one better though.  I remember that one more or less and my memory can really suck ass sometimes.

What about Flushed Away?  Anyone see that?  By this time, the Finding Nemoism of most CGI films taking place in an hidden animal world is kinda old, so I wasn't that interested.  But it is Aardman, so I'm curious.  Hell, did anyone see Ratatouille for that matter?

I thought it was the best adaptation yet.  better than the old movies and better than most of the toons.

Oh...of course you meant the new animated one!  I'm not really old enough to remember those antiquated 80s movies.  This one might have put adults off who aren't cartoon savvy.  I mean it dove right in with some crazy plot points about immortal warriors before even mentioning mutant ninja turtles.  If you were an adult who hasn't watched cartoons in years you might have a little wtf moment there.  I liked it though.

Okay, so it was people who left the Turtles behind in their childhood and not people like me who still more of less watches them to this day.  That reminds me of a coworker that made me feel old because she had like no memories of turtlemania.  At least not when it exploded.  So I guess I'll keep TMNT on my Netflix queue for now.

Yeah that's my guess.   I think people probably rented it thinking it was some updated incarnation (transformers, spiderman, etc) meant to appeal to the older regular adult fans and not mostly to children and people like us.  There's nothing wrong with the movie IMO.  And I liked flushed away also.

TMNT was boring.

And it was so much more dumbed-down and juvenile than the first live action movie. =/

The first Ninja Turtle movie was art, man.

Argeed. It walk the line of kids film that was adult enough for the parents to get into it as well perfectly.

I finally saw TMNT.  I don't remember whether or not I like it more than the 1st movie because honestly it's been years since I've seen the first one.  It is, however, far far superior to the 2nd and 3rd ones (which I unfortunately do have memories of).

The two stars at Netflix is completely undeserved.  It's a great movie, despite the rushed nature of it (especially the ending).  Best use of "Black Betty" EVER.  I think as far as the Netflix rating is concerned, I poked around some of the reviews and a huge portion of the reviewers wanted the goofy-ass 80's cartoon turtles or the live-action movie turtles, which just makes them douches.  Someone even wrote that the beginning reminded them of Apocalypto.  Where the hell were hordes and magic in Apocalypto?  Where were the piles of corpses and the decapitations in TMNT?  Sweet Jesus.  And there was a number who didn't know who the hell Karai was or what she was doing there, and that alone should disqualify their opinions.  Especially since Karai was the hottest one there so they shouldn't even care.  Winters was a stupid "villain" though.
