As in officially. (http://apnews.myway.com/article/20071020/D8SCUJG00.html) And he had a thing for Gellert Grindelwald. Now he can be properly disowned from dozens of childhoods the world over, just like Lexington (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manhattan_Clan#Lexington).

Random comment I read:
So will that be a new phrase for saying someone is gay: "He's a member of Dumbledore's Army."
 I love that. I think I'll use it.
-
I love that even fictional characters are in the closet from the very readers that are reading the book.
-
Um. WOW :o @ the Lexington thing.
-
Wow on both counts here.
-
That bitch did it for the propaganda! i bet the thought of dumbledore being gay never passed through her head until she realized it would be an excellent publicity stunt. whoreeeee!
-
Even so, it passed earlier than you think because during one of the films, there was apparently something in the script referring to a girl in Dumbledore's past of a romantic nature, and Rowling apparently had to correct them about that.
Um. WOW :o @ the Lexington thing.
 Merla was the one that told me about Dumbledore on Friday and then today, I was talking about how I never made a thread about how Dumbledore was "gay like Lexington." And she was all FTehWhatz because she didn't know about that either. And the remainder of the car trip this morning was spent discussing exactly which gargoyle was Lexington, with us hilariously mixing up Brooklyn and Broadway. So she was all, "Well I guess that's okay [Lexington is gay] since they're [all the other gargoyles he roosts with] all dudes" and I was all "no it's not. The rest of them aren't gay. It doesn't help him at all."
-
I say fuck this lexington is gay nonsense. He never acted gay. If they wanted lexington to be gay then make him gay but the guy says "oh we wouldn't be able to do that I'd be fired". So he wasn't gay then. Wanting him to be gay and not making him gay doesn't make him gay.
What was the original reason that dumbledore was in with grindlevald? Because his father was sent to azkaban for killing muggles that hurt his sister? That's all the reason I need for the two of them to be working together, not some torrid wand touching. I don't have a problem with characters being gay but I don't like this hidden faggotry. Well at least now we all know what was going on in the chamber of secrets.
-
::) Settle down, it's fine the way it is.
-
No it's not, it's dumb. Do gays even appreciate these easter egg queer characters? Actually even if they do like it, it doesn't make it a solid practice.
-
Dude, I agree, settle down. Yeah, it sounds a little silly in practice when all's said and done to be all "Oh yeah, btw, he's gay" and I think there should be more clues when a major character has an orientation. At least where Lexington was concerned. But that'd be kinda hard to do. "Man, is Thailog a hottie!" FTW.
In the case of Dumbledore, there were already ppl speculating that he was drawn to Grindy in something beyond a platonic manner. Besides the fact, these are characters in children's media. They aren't permitted to be all Queer Eye and shit. You'd think the most inoffensive queers ever would be lovable penguins (http://www.boston.com/news/education/k_12/articles/2006/11/16/parents_want_gay_penguins_book_blocked/?p1=MEWell_Pos1) but that's not the case. Until we live in a more tolerant world, all of the gay children's cartoon and literary characters are gonna have to remain in the closet and come out Rock Hudson style, when they're already famous and dying of AIDS. Putting a blatantly gay character in a children's book is more suicidal than sticking in witchcraft where the book burners are concerned.
-
Precisely, that's the way people are gay in real life. In a "by the way" fashion. And who the fuck "acted straight" on the show?
God damn, this shit is all so incredibly obvious. Why do I spend so much fucking time on the dick-fucking internet? :'(
-

If you're gay, consider the question already answered.
-
There are plenty of gay people who aren't "by the way I'm gay" gay. I don't know what kind of gay people you know, but I've met plenty of flamingly gay people.
And if they're not going to "act" one way or the other then theres no reason to out children's characters because it was never going to matter. There's no reason to label them gay except to be uber PC, which is retarded. If the creator of gargoyles had divulged after the fact that Lexington was secretly an alien robot pretending to be a gargoyle, but not even Lexington knew that he was an alien robot you'd think that was equally retarded.
People speculate that Dumbledore laid his wrinkly old cock on Harry's scar too. Making him secretly gay doesn't serve any purpose. We see plenty of heterosexual relationships in Potter if she wanted to make Dumbledore gay she should have flat out done it. What does she have to worry about? She's fucking rich beyond her wildest dreams. If anyone was in a position to make an openly gay character it was JK. What would the naysayers do? Boycott her next potter book? Oh wait...there are no more potter books.
Also, wasn't there tension between the human chick and the lead gargoyle?
And stop telling me settle down!
IDE SMASHHHHH!!
*throws the furniture around*

:-[ Run for your virtual lives! He's on an unjustifiably vituperative rampage! :goddammit:

I don't get why some people are freaking out about this. I've never read the Harry Potter books so you could tell me that all of them are gay and dress like women and I'd believe you. I think it's stupid that she just randomly announced this at a press conference after she ended the whole series. Harry Potter slash writers must be creaming in their jeans.
-
I do think the easter egg nature of it is kinda lame. I never really thought of Dumbledore AS a sexual being, because nothing was ever outlined for him being such. If you'd told me that he had devoted his life to the Wizard arts and thus gave up sex I wouldn't have been shocked. I only really think of characters whose sexual prefrence is part of their story. (Harry wanting to bang Chu. Hermonie and Ron getting it on.) Or if they are married or something...if neither of those things are present I don't really concern myself with which way they swing cause it's not important to the story.
-
Yes. ::) That why it wasn't in the butt-grabbing stories. It's just like the epilogue to Stephen King's Dark Tower...... um....... ??? ................... sep-tolo.. gy?
-
Also, wasn't there tension between the human chick and the lead gargoyle?
Yes.
Yes. ::) That why it wasn't in the butt-grabbing stories.
Seconded. She might've thought to stick it in there and decided later it didn't really have that sort of place in the books. And besides that, just to repeat myself, Dumbledore was already setting off gaydars far before this announcement. It's not like she made Percy Weasley or Prof. Flitwick gay. Some people already speculated as much. When Merla and I told Schmoo of this, she was saying Snape should've been the gay one. FTW.

Being a sexual being and having an affectional orientation aren't really the same thing. It's not as though she was all "Oh yeah, he's flaming and wanted to bang or banged all of these other wizards". She said he was gay and liked GG and it was a great tragedy in his life. From what I inferred, he never got over it and devoted his life to other things. He wasn't out scoping for tail or anything.
There are plenty of gay people who aren't "by the way I'm gay" gay. I don't know what kind of gay people you know, but I've met plenty of flamingly gay people.
You know, I considered that point of view heavily given how many flaming out, catty-ass gays I've come across. But then I thought it's quite possible to be gay or lean in the other direction and have people not know because it occurred to me that no one outside my family has any idea about my own orientation, or more appropriately, my lack there of. So I could totally, like, pull a Dumbledore if I ran a skewl.
-
We all know that if you're gay and have your heart broken you forget about that sort of crap and learn to suck your own pornographic memories out and fap to them forever. Which is they there is a password to get into the headmaster's office.
And to the people that had their gaydar's set off I'm betting that wasn't the only character they thought was "secretly gay".
What do you mean by your lack of orientation? Are you bisexual or asexual?
-
Yes.
And to the people that had their gaydar's set off I'm betting that wasn't the only character they thought was "secretly gay".
 Yeah, okay. Good point. Mischief managed, indeed.
-
Every fangirl and their horny mother thinks that Lupin was flaming. Even the actor agrees. (http://www.citynews.ca/news/news_16092.aspx)
-
I never thought he was flaming, but in the films he reminds me of a child molestor.

Semi-related: Rowling completes first post-Harry Potter book (http://omg.yahoo.com/rowling-completes-post-harry-potter-book/news/3619). Except that it still has to do with the Harry Potter world. And she's only publishing seven. =\
-
When you have more money then god you can do stupid shit like spend months or years writing a book and then only print 7 copies.
-
Doc: You've got to come with me Harry.
Harry: Where? Why!? Who are you!
Doc: It's not you it's your kids!
Harry: Lulz!1 OK!
*Harry hops on the delorimbus 4000 and they rocket into teh future*
I'm gonna be rich!
