Warners to remake 'Enter the Dragon'
'Shield's' Kurt Sutter to direct noir-style update
By MICHAEL FLEMING

'Enter the Dragon'
Bruce Lee starrer 'Enter the Dragon' is set for a noir-style remake from 'The Shield' exec producer Kurt Sutter.
Warner Independent Pictures has set "The Shield" exec producer Kurt Sutter to write and make his feature directing debut on "Awaken the Dragon."
Noir-style remake of "Enter the Dragon," the 1973 martial arts classic that made Bruce Lee a global star, will be produced by John Wells, Fred Weintraub and Paul Heller.
John Wells Prods. is based on the Warner lot, and Weintraub and Heller were producers of the original WB-distributed film.
Sutter said he's writing "Awaken the Dragon" as a contemporized drama about a lone FBI agent who pursues a rogue Shaolin monk into the bloody world of underground martial arts fight clubs.
Original film starred Lee as a martial artist who's drafted by law enforcement to participate in a martial arts tournament and infiltrate a drug smuggling operation run from the host's heavily guarded island.
"I'm a huge noir fan, and this plot lends itself to the film I want to make," Sutter said. "I wanted to set it in these underground fight clubs where the action is really raw and expose the brutality of Shaolin kung fu. This will be more 'Raging Bull' than 'Crouching Tiger' in its viciousness."
Sutter will look to discover a fight star in the role of the monk and cast an established American actor to play the FBI agent.
Sutter, who'll be a consulting producer for the final season of "The Shield," is writing the FX pilot "Forever Sam Crow," a drama set in the world of outlaw motorcycle clubs. He's completing the script to "Inland Saints," a Paramount Pictures drama to be directed Joel Schumacher and produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura.
Just make a entirely new film! Damn.

As if that weren't bad enough, also from Variety. (Bolding mid-article mine, you'll see why.)
'Voltron' gets bigscreen go
Mark Gordon sets up robot film at New Regency
By MARC GRASER
Talk Back - post a comment
New Regency is looking to assemble its own giant robot movie.
The 20th Century Fox-based production entity is close to a deal with the Mark Gordon Co. to adapt "Voltron: Defender of the Universe" into a live-action film.
Gordon has been developing the pic, based on the popular 1980s Japanese animated TV series, comicbooks and toy line, with Justin Marks penning the script.
Should the deal close, project would be one of the company's more high-profile efforts since Robert Harper took over as chairman-CEO of Regency Filmed Entertainment earlier this year.
Interest in the property hit a high after "Transformers" turned into a box office juggernaut, raking in nearly $300 million to date.
New Regency, which hasn't had a major hit since "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" in 2005, sparked to the idea of a potential franchise.
Company's upcoming pics include "Alvin and the Chipmunks," the Doug Liman-directed "Jumper," the Alexandre Aja-helmed "Mirrors" and the Eddie Murphy starrer "Starship Dave."
Marks' take is described as a post-apocalyptic tale set in New York City and Mexico. Five ragtag survivors of an alien attack band together and end up piloting the five lion-shaped robots that combine and form the massive sword-wielding Voltron that helps battle Earth's invaders.
Gordon will produce with Lawrence Inglee and Jordan Wynn, who are shepherding the project at the Gordon Co., which has Roland Emmerich's "10,000 B.C." bowing next from Warner Bros. Mark Costa and Ford Oelman are exec producers.
"Voltron" pic has been in the works for nearly three years, with Jim Young's Animus Films funding its development.
Marks has become a go-to guy in Hollywood for comicbook, videogame and toy-based adaptations.
He is adapting "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" for Joel Silver at Warner Bros., as well as the Green Arrow pic "Supermax," also at the studio. Marks also has "Street Fighter" in the works at Hyde Park and Fox.
Then I guess it ain't fucking Voltron, fuckers! Fuckity fuck fuck fuck you.
-
If you tag "...The Dragon" on you get more money at the box office.
As far as voltron is concerned, well I guess they put it on earth so that the gumps can relate a little more. Though what the fuck a bunch of lion mecha would be doing here is gonna be a hell of a lot harder to explain now.
-
Ok...so it has a differnt plot....and a differnt title....how is this a remake again?
And as for Voltron. It's just another example of the Hollywood mindset ruining something that they don't understand.
-
I may vomit.
-
If you tag "...The Dragon" on you get more money at the box office.
I don't mind that. I wouldn't even mind if they lifted the basics of the plot. Hell, it's been done before. Throw in some supernatural elements and bam, you have "Mortal Kombat". Ppl do that all the time. Calling it a remake of (or even feeling the need to remake) Enter the Dragon is what I find offensive. Bruce Lee's last completed film? Named for Bruce Lee? Just lift the damn plot and call it "Awaken the Dragon" and let it stand on its own instead of using a dead guy's name and film. We all know it won't end up being similar enough to call it a remake.
The Voltron thing was easy to do. Five hip, happening dudes in the future, traveling in space. They get caught up in some war (likely some dog-fight of some kind) and are blasted onto Arus near the magnificent Castle of Lions. Coran, Allura, and co. save them and plead for their help. Someone among the group re-discovers the legend of Voltron and they unearth and pilot the Lions to defeat the incoming forces of Zarkon, Lotor, and Hagar. Sven gets captured and the princess fills in for him in the final showdown to the horror and protests of Coran and Nanny. Intersperse with adorable, irresistible space mice. This shit practically writes itself. Mexico? EARTH?! Make a new robot movie if that's what you want to do. FUCK.

Wachowski brothers. Live Action Speed Racer. 2008. Can't find article about it.
-
Should've Googled "Speed Racer Matrix". This gives me some hope. From USA Today (http://www.usatoday.com/life/movies/news/2007-05-30-speed-racer_N.htm):
Unlike those darker movies, Racer "is going to be very bright, very family-friendly," Silver says. "And it will have great effects like The Matrix, just with the car."
And hopefully no bullet time. But then of course, there's this:
Like the Matrix films and the Wachowski-produced V for Vendetta, Racer "has a lot to say about remaining independent and thinking for yourself," Hirsch says. "The brothers weren't just looking to do the TV show on film."
V was a great movie even if not wholly faithful, but why does everything need to have a damn message attached? Well if it turns out to be at least as good as V, that won't be too bad.
-
Thanky, you've given me another movie I have to watch again... And I'll have to see about getting Enter the Dragon as well. I will say this, if it is the good half of the Transformers movie then people will love it. If it's the part you can sleep through..... DOOM is in the air!
-
I sleep under an Enter the Dragon poster, so I already awaken under the Dragon. When I sleep in my room that is. During the hot months I like to crash on the couch. There I awaken under, like, the fan.

Bump for update. Apparently the Voltron movie is still rolling but w/ another writer attached. I'm still praying for no mention of Mexico. Meanwhile, there will be a new Voltron cartoon on Nicktoons later this year. I fully expect it to be in CG and just as bad as Wolverine and the X-Men.
http://www.coronacomingattractions.com/news/exclusive-latest-about-voltron-movie-and-new-animated-tv-series
There’s an expanded, interracial team.
I hope this means equal opportunity casting for the right folks to play the parts by choosing from a broad spectrum of skin colors and ethnic backgrounds and not "hey, let's stick in a black guy or a saucy latina that clearly doesn't belong and make the character conform to them" the way this usually turns out. But of course it'll likely be the latter and we'll get a Wayans, a rapper, or Michelle Rodriguez somehow.
-
Well Wolverine and the X-Men is as good as cancelled with Disney buying Marvel, so don't worry.
-
A new Voltron toon you say. Hope it gets a toy line. The one Trendmasters(a MO company before it went belly up) did back in 99-00 wasn't bad.
I still have my Phosh Palace Voltron to this day.
-
I missed an oppurtunity to rebuy a Voltron toy. I had one when I was little, but when we moved my Mom gave it to my cousin. I never saw it again :(
-
I'm still hold a grudge against one of my teachers, don't remember which one, but she took my Voltron pencil sharpener away from me cause she thought it was a toy, and never gave it back. >=(
-
THAT CUNT! The worst traumatic event relating to a toy involved a GI Joe and the Gulf of Mexico. Right before I moved to Florida, my sister bought me a GI Joe. I loved that toy so much I brought it with me into the water (I was 7-8) and I dropped it in the water. I was depressed the rest of the day filled with thoughts of poor Joe at the bottom of the ocean.
:(
-
I know a guy that told me about how on vacation he found a G.I.Joe on the beach. Maybe he got your Joe.

But she'll get drunk and crash the blue lion into a mountain. :(

Which Joe was it? These are important details.
-
No idea. He was all in green and had blond (?) hair? Is there a photobook I could look through?
-
www.yojoe.com
All Green sounds like one from 82.
-
It is probably Duke. You know it. If it is Hawk, I will praise the awesomeness, because Duke is just a wannabe Hawk.
-

So was that "The Legend of Chun-Li" and what about the other two films listed here?
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0427340/ ???
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1008047/ ???
-
You best not be talking smack about Duke. He was a fellow MO boy.
It was Legend of Chun-Li and He-Man isn't at WB anymore. I think Paramount has the rights to Masters of the Universe now. No idea on Green Arrow.

I doubt it, I moved to Florida nearly ten years after that.
I think it's:
http://www.yojoe.com/action/87/falcon.shtml
-
82 to 87 is only five years, though.
-
Well I moved in '90, so either I was given it when I was littler, or wherever she bought it had it on the shelf for some time.
-
I had Falcon. One of the few from that year I really liked. I consider 87 to be the year that Joe started its long downward spiral to death.
-
I was never into GI Joe. I think that's the only one I've ever owned.
-

Transformers, too. Both have gone through various revivals, but I think it is obvious Transformers has weathered better, and has had some great spots along the way. (Beast Wars, Robots in Disguise, even the "Unicron trilogy" is not that horrible, and especially the more recent Animated).
GI Joe? Please tell me you did not like Extreme. Sigma Six had some cool ideas, I suppose (the mini-figures). The movie? I was entertained, though not truly pleased.
I wonder if there will be a new Joe series on "The Hub."
-
I did really like Animated. Wish I could just get it on DVD without selling a kidney.
And nah I hated Extreme. S6 had some good ideas, but wasn't executed well. 25th was awesome. I loved that, but the I loath the movie and the toys. Resolute was awesome.
-
RESOLUTE WAS AWESOME
That is how a new series should be straight through, but I doubt we will get that. I liked a few things about the movie, and the only time I thought the toys were cool was at SDCC where they had touched up dioramas.
-
Hasbro doesn't want to do that. Which I don't understand why they Green lit something that had no intention of supporting. It's sad cause it was really awesome and I'd love to see more, but I doubt we will.
-
So, when I first saw the title of this thread, I thought to myself, "Faye's kid already has a forum account?"
-
She has a kid?!
-
Well Wolverine and the X-Men is as good as cancelled with Disney buying Marvel, so don't worry.
The damage has been done. :nono:
-
Rewatching X-Men evolution on Disney XD makes me long.
-
Me too. That show was really awesome.
-
Much better animation, better storyline, and a better Wolverine. Kary prefers WatXM Scarlet Witch over XME Goth Witch, though.
-
Young Justice. Okay, Superman looks kinda hot but I'm sick of teams and I'm sick of Robin. Haven't they already done this? It's like Teen Titans meets Justice League. Can't DC have a show starring a core group of maybe three people without their ten million other characters making cameos everywhere? In fact, they should just have this star Supes, Black Guy, and Arrow Chick. The rest look like losers anyway.
-
Also, it looks like Superman and Black Dude pluck their eyebrows. And I mean beyond the required manscaping. That's very... weird.
-
>Black dude
Token much?
-
Token too much. Like every other black dude is dying to hang out with four crackers and a green girl. Didn't we already have a line up like this w/ Teen Titans? Two chicks, someone who doesn't matter, Robin, and a black guy with an attitude? Green person? Check. A fucking Robin? Fucking check. Caucasian-type in charge? Check. (I guess he could end up being magical Asian Superboy non-Goku but I doubt it.) At least Captain Planet had an excuse for one black person AND included an Asian, a Latino, and a Ruskie to boot. DC has a ton of heroes. Can't they make something with someone else? Also, Superboy looks awkward in cargo pants. Not terrible, but they don't seem to suit him. Oh well, he yung and dats wut yungins wear! Black Superboy shirts, coming to American Eagles everywhere this July!
EDIT: My bad, put Superman when he's Superboy. whatev
-
She has a kid?!
lol srsly?
-
WHAT
THE
FUCK
!
?
!
MARTIAN
MANHUNTRESS
?
?
?
SERIOUSLY
?
-
You a-gonna spit up, too. I watching dis.
-
JESUS FUCKING CHRIST I JUST NOTICED GREEN ARROW!!
THEY HAVE NO DECENCY!
-
I know. The arrow should be pointing down. And it should be on a pair of panties.
-
That is a good point. If I was going to have sex with a male superhero that was suddenly a female superhero in an animated series featuring young heroes, it would probably be Green Arrow.
Also, both of the girls' mouth's are too big.
-
I thought the arrow was just a way of reminding guys where to look.
-
Also, both of the girls' mouth's are too big.
Dude, you're right. Remove the lipstick and you have one giant chomper!!
I was reading a little more about this and the black guy is AQUALAD. I'm gonna go find a tree somewhere, sit under it, and think about this shit. Meanwhile, someone at Toonzone made me lol. Simon Phoenix.
