Title: This summer's top blockbuster will be...
Post by: B E C K on May 07, 2007, 04:21:59 PM
Eh, I dunno.  But here's what 4000+ people who voted on the local newspaper's web poll think:

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer  2.2%
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix  24.3%
Live Free or Die Hard  2.1%
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End  17.7%
Shrek the Third  11.0%
The Simpsons Movie  6.3%
Spider-Man 3  29.4%
Transformers  7.1%

I can't help but think so many people voted Spider-Man because of its current take right now.  Are they really not planning on not seeing anything else this summer?  My vote was for Harry Potter, but I'll likely be seeing it at least twice and I'm also biased.

I think it might be more fun to speculate which ones will flop the hardest.  My vote is for Live Free or Die Hard.  Sorry McClaine, you know I luv j00 but Internets terrorists?  Noooooo.  I think the rest of these movies will still make a profit but Transformers might be in a bit of danger.  I'm not exactly jazzed about it either.  We'll see.

Atleast they aren't showing too much interest in Craptastic Four or a Transformers movie called "Transformers", but in reality is about the adventures of a spoiled Jewish youth.

I think it would be cool if FF2 flopped right on its fantastic ass, but I think there are enough dudes jizzing over Alba, SS fanboys, and people who actually liked it to go see it.  I think you hit on something:  The involvement of young hawt youts (that's right, I'm saying it Pesci-style) always lower my expectations of films, especially one that's suppose to be about the robots.

Personally, I figure Potter'll be the biggest movie, but the only ones I plan to see are Spiderman 3 and Transformers (screw the mechanical designs, it has Peter Cullen up in that bitch).

I also think that out of all the fanbases for these films, the Potter ones are the most rabid.  Rabid = ticket sales.

Fangirls will clamour for Will and Jack Sparrow.
Retarded kids will yearn for Shrekness because they're retarded.
And there aren't a lot of people that DON'T like Spider-Man.
After that, it all goes downhill from there.

I think Spider-Man 3 will hold out as the top dog this summer, but Pirates 3 will give them a good run for their money.

After those two I figure it'll go:

Shrek 3
Harry Potter
FF2
Die Hard 4
Transfromers
and
Simpsons

I really don't think Transformers or Simpsons are going to do very well.

I think Simpsons has still retained enough fans to keep its numbers decent.  People still watch the show.  I don't know why.  I tried watching it the other day and the joke for the first act was that Moe was depressed.  The episode before that was about Maggie and her pacifier and Homer not being able to sleep and by the second half it was about Homer being a firefighter who steals.  And Maggie, who for the first act had no pacifier, suddenly had one.  They could've at least had Homer steal one for her instead of just god-moding it.  It would've been a better episode if it had stuck to the pacifier story.

I hope the new FF movie isn't as slapstick as the predecessor. It really wasn't that bad, but you can see the Spider-Man equation being applied to it to try to make a successful movie.

Doubtbul, if you've seen the newest trailer where Ben and Johnny actually swap powers...

Also, while absent from the trailer, Galactus not going to have any humanoid form.  Rather he is a giant, purple cloud, I shit you not.

Ioan Gruffudd, in an interview with AICN, has stated that Galactus will appear in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer .[3] Director Tim Story wrote on his MySpace space on the same subject: "There continues to be much speculation about Galactus. Major speculation. We haven't finished the design of him/it so be careful about what you read and believe."[4]

From Wiki.

They should've casted him as a huge black man like Bill Duke.  Then we could've called him Ba-lacktus.

I posted a link on squirrel's board that refutes the rumor and says we will get enough galactus.

Crisis averted.

They'd better be careful - Jerry Falwell will see subliminal gay agenda messages airbrushed into it.

I'm definitely seeing OOTP.  I saw production shots with the Marauders, and they look awful - James is especially gooberish.  Young Snape, on the other hand, is a lovely pouty goth boy.  Had I been Lily, there would be no Harry.  ;)

No wouldn't he would just have a different father and then be Harry Snape... oh geez... what an awful name.

Or do you mean no Harry because Lily is child free?

Hee Hee....Harry Snape.

But then Harry and Snape could fight on top of Hogwarts and after Snape cuts off Harry's hand he could reveal that he is in fact HIS FATHER!!!!

And Boba Fett takes a frozen Ron to Jabba the Hutt.

Maybe she can shave her head again to celebrate.

Anyone hear about this?

Anyway, forget Hermione, Bonnie Wright looks great in that poster.  She's kind working an Aniston thing with the hair.

Well they know they can pay her more cause after Deathly Hallows they won't need her anymore since JK Rowling is killing off Ron, Hermione, and Harry in the last book. Then she is going to drink the fans tears before having a swim in her giant vault of money.

She bought Scrooge's vault after several failed Casino/Hotel ventures went belly up and left him in bankruptcy. He is hoping for a reality show to come along an bail him out though.

No, there'd be no Harry because I, as Lily, would have gone for the goth instead of the goober.  :P But I can't see Snape as a dad, either.  Lily would either be all weepy, complaining that he's always out with those dreadful Death Eaters and never spends any time with little Sevvie or casting a rolling pin spell and screeching, "Out all night again, you WORM!!!" :gwynn:

And Faye....

I wonder if there some scheme from the years of Perry Mason I've watched that could help me get my hands on Faye's money.

Yeah, I can't quite see him as a submissive.  He'd probably rather do the tying-up.

I'm gonna bet on Transformers.

Shrek 3... maybe people are tired of that by now. Or not.

Pirates 3... I haven't seen the second one, but from a couple anecdotal opinions I think people liked the first one more. I've only seen the first one and I didn't like it too much. I'm interested in seeing the CGI for Davy Jones in the second one, though.

Well in the third one we find out how they get Jack back.  That's a good cliffhanger, even for people who don't care so much for the franchise.

I'd hope people get tired of Shrek.  The only thing I want to bomb more than the FF is Shrek.  By the end of the first movie he already wore out his welcome.
