From Why Women Aren't Funny (http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/features/2007/01/hitchens200701) :
Be your gender what it may, you will certainly have heard the following from a female friend who is enumerating the charms of a new (male) squeeze: "He's really quite cute, and he's kind to my friends, and he knows all kinds of stuff, and he's so funny … " (If you yourself are a guy, and you know the man in question, you will often have said to yourself, "Funny? He wouldn't know a joke if it came served on a bed of lettuce with sauce béarnaise.") However, there is something that you absolutely never hear from a male friend who is hymning his latest (female) love interest: "She's a real honey, has a life of her own … [interlude for attributes that are none of your business] … and, man, does she ever make 'em laugh."
Wouldn't he be far less likely to say "has a life of her own" and talk about what a funny bitch she is? The article is kinda interesting, but it gets really wordy on the second page and starts quoting Kipling and shit like that, so I stopped reading after the first page.
I actually started reading it because it was linked from a posting at Cartoon Brew (http://www.cartoonbrew.com/ideas-commentary/geena-davis-on-cartoons) about Geena Davis' crusade for more female characters in cartoons (http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=07/03/08/1443236), actually "childrens' media" which includes cartoons by default. :\ Gender disparity in animation has always been of interest to me, but I'm worried about getting more Lola Bunnys or Darbys (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Friends_Tigger_%26_Pooh) out of this.

Chicks for the most part are not funny...except to other chicks.
In other news I have been to the promised land and had sex upon it, thus concecrating my right to move here and establish my powet base.
-
I've said a girl is funny before. In fact, a sense of humor is almost required to put up with my antics.
-

The misogynist in me would be inclined to agree except most people to me aren't funny, men and women. I can't even count the number of situations where people give presentations in class or crack a joke and I feel like slapping the rest of the room like little bitches because they laugh at that stale shit. Sitcoms are especially horrid.
BTW, has anyone seen the Winner? What a sack of shit.
-
I have...I got money on 5 weeks before it gets canned. What in on that action?
-
I'll see your five weeks with a season. I think they'll be generous with this festering piece of crap.
-
Oh you are on.
-
I'd like to add that it may eek out a renewal but it will definetely die before or in the beginning of season two, perhaps Futurama-style by being constantly preempted for dumb sports of some kind.
-
I'll take the under on that. But only if we're counting weeks, not episodes
-
Sna? So then how many weeks you in for?
-
Ever notice how most female comedians are either lesbians or tomboys?
Sarah Silverman is a total dude.
-
That is very true. The ones that aren't don't seem to be funny on the average.
-
Ah well, women aren't here to be funny.
They're here to look good and help propagate the species.
Haha! Chauvinist zing!
Only kidding, of course.
-
Or is he?
-
Nope.
All women should be on leashes, like another domesticated animal we men enjoy keeping for company.
Haha!
Again, only kidding.
-
Or is he?
-
No, not at all.
-
I still say guys should carry the baby like our mighty and progressive brother, the wily seahorse.
-
Some guest was reading this old shit and I decided to look up The Winner. It lasted 6 episodes but only 3 weeks. So we both fuckin' lost, Rama, and I guess Sam won. Aren't you glad you learned this over 4 years later?
And is that guest IDE?

A good sense of humour is probably the most appealing trait I could find in a human, male or female. It's a huge factor in that big nebulous "Personality" group of skills that you hear so much about. As a man I surely don't vocalise this as being the reason for my attraction to women that much, but it sure as hell is a huge factor. It's just guys are more expected to just say "Yeah I like her 'cause she's got a hot ass and a sweet pair of tits" but that'll get tired in a hurry.
This being said I find a lot of women don't make me laught like guys do. When I find one that does, it's pretty hot.
-
It is hot. A girl that can go "tit for tat" with you is very attractive. Settling for someone that can't do that only seems to make you unhappy in the long run.
-
Yeah that was me.
To this day women for the most part are not funny to me. And now that I've seen something truly funny (3 drunk mexicans beating the shit out of each other on the side of the road) I can say that most things I've seen aren't that funny.
I mean nothing has made me laugh that hard in years. I can't remember the last time I saw something that great.
-
How do you know they were all Mexican?
Perhaps they were each from a different South American nation, hence the disagreement.
-
I am an expert at telling what country hispanics come from and I know they were all mexicans.
-

How was that funny? Were they doing it with el whoopie cushions or somethin'?
-
It was truly a you had to be there type of thing.
But some of the highlights include:
El Guy 1 stomping on the face of El Gordo who was clearly someone he knew and hung out with (I mean who stomps on their friends face?...hooolarious)
El Guy 2 trying to break it up but instead ends up fighting El Guy 1 (but just for a moment and half heartedly), even to the point of knocking El Guy 1 down and trying to pound his face in while he's down (Is that how fights are broken up in el meheeco?)
El Gordo trying to chase El Guy 1 in slow motion but he can't walk straight cause he's drunk and his face has been smashed in by El Guy 1's boots so El Guy 2 is sort of holding El Gordo up while he chases El Guy 1 into oncoming traffic.
El Guy 1 is almost hit by a truck.
Finally all 3 of them walk off together, once again best buds after being ground and pounded and having their heads kicked while they were down.
I know it doesn't seem funny if you're just reading it but live...OH MY GOD!...it was BRILLIANT!
If Hollywood could capture the essence of what I saw they might actually be able to make a TRULY funny movie instead of what just passes for humor these days.
-
Also El Guy 1 knocked down El Gordo with one punch to start this baby off.
-
Gee, I wonder what "El Gordo" looked like.
-
I don't want to know. Cause then it will shatter the image I have in my mind of these two and a third Mexican mouse beating each other senseless on the side of road.
-
Gee, I wonder what "El Gordo" looked like.
I guess he looked like a gordita?
-
Damn you, you've gone and made me hungry.
-
Would we like you when you're hungry?
-
And Fiero, "gordo" is Spanish for "admirable".
For instance, one might say Faye is muy gordo.
-
Would we like you when you're hungry?
As long as you're not a hamburger or something.
-

Oh man, that's phat.
