A "dewy mob"?  If that doesn't refer to the homeless people who like to sleep in there or the various campus perverts, then you lost me.  They don't use Dewey Decimal there.

I'm picturing this library set up on a folding table, between an asian guy selling "authentic" Nike shoes for ten bucks and a man with a table full of videos including "One night in Paris" and R. Kelly's Golden Showers video.

Damn goverment trying to destroy Dewy's legacy.

Sounds like a pretty vague system, that might actually make it harder to find what you are looking for rather than easier.

Most Academic Libraries along with law, health, and special libraries use LCC.  Dewey is used primarily in school and public libraries.  LCC is designed to give more detailed description of location (the break down of the call number) of the material because DDC does not include all potential subjects.  To do so would require and infinite number of classes.

Main Classes of LCC

A= General work
B= Philosophy
C= Auxiliary Sciences of history
D= Old world history
etc....

H is the social sciences.

Examples of Expanding to subdivision.

HV6085 = general works on the language of criminals
HV6089= Prison psychology
HV6093= general works on intellectual and aesthetic characteristics of criminals
HV6097= Prison literature, wall inscriptions

It expands futher into decimal points more numbers.
.

HV5831 .M46 T734 2003
HV5831.17 K27 E58 1998
HV6178.235 H48 Q69 1991

I made these up don't try to actually look for them.
I don't fully understand if all, we only touch lightly upon it in TS class.  I don't take cataloging until the summer.

Well when he was a lad he ate four dozen eggs every morning to help him get large.  Now that he's grown he eats five dozen eggs so he's roughly the size of barge.

Title: I am amazed by the skills of some people here
Post by: Rama on Dec 10, 2006, 10:23:30 PM
Actually no...I have no idea how small it is. I've never seen it. I'd like too, but as of yet have not.

Now if you say "Do you have any idea how big the Arch is is?" I can yes...it's fricken huge!

Firstly, every picture has the surrounding city cropped or cut out of the shot.  The things not even three stories tall by my estimation and not very wide either.  I couldn't find of shot of the Alamo and the buildings next to it, but this is an aerial shot of downtown to give you an idea.  If this picture extended another inch or so, somewhere below the 1 would be the Alamo.  2 is Rivercenter Mall (or more specifically, the Dillards).  And that round friendly corner marked by 3 is where all the people with bells and kettles hang out to ambush you and try to get money out of you.

I'm a little suprised they didn't try to preseve more of the site. Even back in the day it was important location and they just sort of bulldozed everything but the church.

Pretty city though.
