Title: cooking eggplant?
Post by: Merla on Jul 14, 2006, 02:34:59 PM
Okay this is probably a long shot question here.  Does anyone here eat eggplant and if so what is the best way too cook it?  Nuri bought one for me and is going to cook it as soon as I find a recipe for it.  Thanks.

Cut it into thick slices, batter it, deep fry it, then eat it on a bun.

joerammstein makes eating healthy... fun!

NO!  We cannot deep fry it!       Eggplant is like 90% water and will absorb the oil like a sponge.  Also the whole point of buying it is to make an effort to eat healthier.  Frying it negates that purpose.

In that case, squeeze it into a cup and drink the juice. Easy-peasy!

No frying eh?

make sure to dry it first using paper towels.

I am allergic to eggplant x.x

Frying it works best, though.

They baked it in slices  with cheese on top.  Blech.  I can't eat veggies and cheese like that, it makes with the sick feeling.  I think I'll buy another sometime and steam it like Faye said.

Yeah that's the best way in my opinion. I mean, I never liked eggplant, but when I tried it like that (or fried with tempura) then it was yummy.

Just don't nuke it.  The skin will be like a rubber band.

What if I peel it and add the lightly cooked skin as a garnish, much like that one cannibal's recipe I read.

Those things are so ugly.  I can't believe how popular they were back in the 80's.

No, it was already cooked.  A bunch of it is still in the fridge though, probably getting spoiled.  Merla, eat it!
