I have absolutely no idea what he's supposed to be other than some sort of mascot, but I do know that he is awesome.

During a dream sequence at the beginning of the first episode, the main character rips his little hat off with his teeth and throws him like a grenade to great effect.

The show seems to be based mostly in reality, so I think he'll probably only ever show up as some sort of delusion.

The first episode only aired this past Sunday, but so far so good.

The manga's been going for a while now, though, and most of it's been translated by fans, so I'll probably look into that.
