one of the things that's pissing me off the most about getting a job nowadays is the shitty job market, and I think I know why it's shitty. Every job requires experience and no job is willing to give you that experience.
So far, I've been denied at 3 employment agencies. One said that they wouldn't take me because I had been unemployed more than 6 months (wtf?), but the other two said they needed someone with experience in warehouse work... why do you need experience in a warehouse? What, to know how to move a box from one place to another?
Same thing at Murray's and this bike shop I went to. The bike shop wanted experienced people to work there for bike repairs... it's not like I can get a bachelors in bike repair, where am I supposed to get this experience? Murray's wanted someone with "Parts" experience, which didn't make sense, how hard is it to look up a part on a computer and get it off a shelf? Yes, I know this is a starter and this is a brake caliper, I just spent my entire weekend fixing my damn car!
I hardly bother to read the Sunday job section because 80% of the jobs need fucking experience.
How come every place wants you to have experience, but the only way to get that experience is working at one of those places? It's a paradox. You can't work at this store without experience, but you get experience by working at this store.
This is why the economy is going to shit. I blame Bush and his anti-Greek-gay-apprenticeship amendment.

LIE ON YOUR APPLICATION!
You fucking idiot.

Just when I think D has beat the horse to death, that horse shows up again with a twenty dollar bill and a smile on it's face.
-
I think D should create a thread JUST about his bitching experiences. That way whoever wants to read it will go there, instead of having to create 100000 threads about his bitching. Good lord, if someone that isn't a member comes and see all the threads he has written, he/she is gonna think this is a damn livejournal.

Go work at McDonald's for six months and then reapply at the agency.
-
Do some voluenteer work. Just say the hell away from the kids.
-
 You're right, what was I thinking. I've endangered the playplace!
-
He could work at a McDonalds...with a 'Playplace'...
I'd call it "win-win".
-
Why must he complain about everything? What downer! Makes you wonder if Doug even have any real friends.
-
His mom...
Literally.

Mock me if you wish, but I don't plan on working in retail for my entire life like some of you guys. At least I'm trying to get an entry-level job in something.
It just pisses me off when the paper's job listings are so thin, and every job I see there and apply to requires experience, and especially when they expect you to have professional experience even though I KNOW I can do the damn job without it.
One of the agencies that denied me has a position for an assistant webdesigner. I'm going to demand they let me try for the job or I'll kill someone down there.
-

I think only a couple people here work retail and those who do are in school. You can't get an "entry-level" job without any experience, that's just how it works. If you don't like it, go to a communist country. I've worked hard my entire life, since I was fourteen, and it's partially why I have the job I have today. I'm training to become an ortopedics sales rep for the company I work for and if all goes well, I'll be making six figures by the time I'm 30.
You take jobs, you work hard, you move up. It's just like one of your gay little RPGs. You start out weak and move up by doing things you don't necessarily want to do.

I can see that going belly up. Do you have anything to show for it? A portfolio? Anything? I'm willing to bet "no". I'm also curious how far that whiny, "demanding" attitude will get you into that agency...
-

After that anime club website you showed us, I don't see how the agency not denying you would've work out anyway.
-
I've had so many web design classes my head hurts. That anime website was before them. Sure I don't have a portfolio but I'm working on that. Even if I crank out a pointless website for myself that has 3 pages if it looks pretty hopefully it's all good.
And when I talk experience I mean for shit like selling auto parts, auto repair (I have personal experience), sitting in front of a desk taking calls, working in a warehouse.
You can't get an "entry-level" job without any experience, that's just how it works.
That's the point of "Entry Level", it means they don't expect you to have professional experience. Entry Level = No Professional Experience. Some places still might want you to know how to do the job, but others will train. And there's a severe lack of entry level in michigan.
-
I would just like to take this opportunity to say that I have no fuck experience in the ass.
-
Hahaaa I've been offered 2 jobs already and I haven't graduated yet! One of them is as a financial advisor, wtf, I don't even know what do you have to do if you are working as one
-

Make certain that it's a rock-bottom entry level trainee position where you won't be required to make any decisions regarding people's money until you have a few years of financial experience under your belt. Trust me, I'm not insulting you when I say that. People get very lawsuit-happy when someone loses money for them.
-
Well they say they would train me, but I'm not sure about it. You know what does a financial advisor does?
-
I'm using the connections I've made through friends, family, and school to find jobs. You're better off tapping that resource (that doesn't mean bang out your cousin) than looking in a paper to find employment.
-
I'm gonna probably go into Pharmacy school... yeah, that sounds sweet.
-
Wait, aren't you a history major?
-
The only thing a history major can do is become a history professor and continue the cycle.
-
That sums it up in a nutshell! I studies history as well. I do not want to be a boring history professor!
If Tom has all the prereqs and a killer MCAT score it doesn't matter what he majored in. The same goes for medical doctors as well. I've heard of theater and music majors going to Medical school. Go figure.
[shit!!! I had typed "boning history professor!" hahaha}
-
Wait, aren't you a history major?
Yeah, but school is expensive and I want money now. To become a pharmacist I don't have to do much more, and then pharmacists now get 50k signing bonuses with loads of benefits and such, moving and travel expenses, andd 200,000+ starting salaries. I think that's a good way to save up for masters and doctoral school, especially through getting the 50k bonus from one pharmacy chain, working there for a year, switching to another chain for another bonus, etc.
Walmart and Target are desperately scrambling for Pharmacists, because unlike lawyers there's not enough in school to fill the growing demand. CVS and Walgreens corner the market on getting them, while headhunters from Wal and Target wrestle the older ones from the chains to work in their stores. The swelling old population will just put Pharmacists in higher demand, increasing their salaries and benefits. Every pharmacist I know drive a BMW or better.

Not trying to be rude here but....
What the fuck are you new to Internet? Every jerk off an his mom has a site. Fucking 12 year old bitches are making sweet designed websites for dumb ass shit like Black Eye Peas fan listing sites and you can't trouble yourself to make something up? Don't bitch about not having experience and fucking get some. Make a site about any dumb shit you can think of, not matter how retarded the topic. Make it pretty. Make it what you want to make for other people. Then when you apply for a job you have something to show them.
For every guy out there with a background in web design education without even a single site to back it up there are a thousand people who learned that shit on their own with a better chance of getting the job.
You're in one of the few feilds where you have the oppurtunity to create your own experience without having to work to get it and all you can do is bitch about it like a fucking little bitch. Get off your ass.

*claps* I am totally homeschooled in graphics and webdesign. ^_^

You know what does a financial advisor does?
From careerplanner.com:
Advise clients on financial plans utilizing knowledge of tax and investment strategies, securities, insurance, pension plans, and real estate. Duties include assessing clients' assets, liabilities, cash flow, insurance coverage, tax status, and financial objectives to establish investment strategies.
This is just the brief description. You might want to review the whole page.
50+ hours a week (http://www.careerplanner.com/Job-Descriptions/Personal-Financial-Advisors.cfm)
-
What a strange duck!
-
I'd be kinda worried about your clients if you don't even know what a financial advisor is.
-
Judging from how simplistic the listing for insurance underwriter is, I'm wondering about the intangibles the description doesn't mention. If my job was that cut and dried, I could leave at noon every day. :(

Yep. And when you don't dot the i when you're writing their name in the snow, it's YOUR ass.

Yes, but every jerkoff and his mom's site is usually some shitty geocities crap. Making a website is easy. making a professional looking one is more difficult. I have no website, and I don't know why I would want one. Why would I? as you guys show, no one's going to care about my life and hobbies. I'm still trying to get someone who wants me to redo their site for free so I can practice and have that experience.
But, since no one reads, when I complain about jobs wanting experience, I'm talking about ones you wouldn't expect to have experience for, like auto parts, or resturants, or customer service/tech support, or quicklube oil change, or warehouse, where you wouldn't expect them to want experience but every job around here wants you to have some.
It may be moot, I think the local Dominos may give me a job. Unless they expect me to have experience driving to someone's house and giving them a fucking pizza.

Your insult is very 2000. The Internet today is not mostly filled with shitty geocities sites. Not unless you go looking for them at least. There's an astronomical amount of quality site out there at least from a design point of view, which is exactly what you're talking about. So you don't want to make a site and literally millions of people can and have made professional looking webpages. So why would anyone want to hire your ass when you have nothing to show for it? Do you think someone would apply to some artist's job at a comic book company or something without a portfolio?
"Can I see samples of your work"
"I was never really inspired to draw anything but I assure you I'm talented"
"But you've never drawn anything how do you know you're good?"
"I took a few courses. If you pay me I'll draw something good for you."
"Thanks but I'll hire my 12 year old cousin."
-
I can't believe you don't have samples of your work. Well actually yes I can. Empolyer want to see results, you expect them to take your word for it. Also a lot of companies now a days do not even have to hire web designers because they have people on staff (hired for some other purpose) that can do the job.
-
"I've worked in the private sector....they expect results."
